I'm a UK citizen my partner who is a USA citizen is planning on marrying me in the UK,how long would he be allowed to stay in the UK?he would only be coming to the UK to marry me not to live in the UK.....lve also got a daughter who is 14 years of age and who is also a UK citizen....myself including my daughter then would be going to live in the USA Please could you advice me on what kind of visa's ect would be needed

The USA citizen would need to apply for a spousal visa for you and a family visa for the child.  These can easily tke 2 to 3 years and you cannot stay in the U.S. while waiting.  You need to read all about the visas at the site below and talk to the American embassy before getting married...this can be a long difficult process.  Marriage does NOT get you into the U.S.  It might be better for the U.S. citizen to return to the U.S. and apply for a fiance visa for you...that would get you to the U.S. sooner.    None of this will be simple or quick. Don't know how the matter of the child could be handled...need to talk to embassy about that.  You may find you need the help of an immigration lawyer.


  2. Two phone calls, one to your UK immigration and another to a USA consulate would give you the answers.
