that is one of the perks of being a US citizen, you don't need a visa. a round trip ticket is all you need provided you stay in the Philippines within the alloted 21 days and 90 days for japan.

if you want to stay beyond those days,then you have to apply for a visa.

You just need you passport and it must be valid for the next 6 months.

You get 3 weeks in each place on a tourist visa before you will need an extension.
