Ok, so I am planning on taking a cruise to Cancun, Mexico with my husband, do I need a passport? I am a US permanent resident, and have been for the past 17 yrs, I'm 25, so that means that my passport from my country of birth has expired a long time ago. Would appreciate some answers.

Thanks!!

  1. As of Janruary 2008 you have to have a passport to enter the country. If you are docking in mexico then most definately if not then you might want to contact your agent and find out the details.

  2. I would like to recommend you some useful infomation here.http://cruise.online-assistant.info/ense...

  3. by law you are required to have a passport to leave the u.s. and return. i am not sure if that applies to cruises but it most likely does. if you go to the u.s. passport site you will be able to find the information you need if not call them. they are very nice and helpful. my son needed help with his passport and the info on the website was unclear so we called and they told us exactly what we needed and which office was close to us. here is the link to the u.s. passport office:

  4. Here is an ACCURATE answer!  Passports are not required for LAND or SEA travel to and from Mexico until after SUMMEWR 2008.  See website below and read the top half of the page carefully for the CURRENT info.  You can also CALL your cruise line and ask their policy...because some cruise lines require passengers to have passports even tho the law does not YET require them.  After 17 years you have still not applied for citienship?  You are going to have a big problem in a few months if you do not have a passport.  Also, you cnnot FLY internationally anywhere without a passport.  It was your parents  responsibility to keep your passport from your home country current  when you were a child, and now it is yours since you cannot get a U.S. passport.  Would be wise to contact your embassy and apply for a new passport...so you will be able to travel in the future.  I hope you have kept your green card current. I know I am sounding kind of impatient here, but I have seen soooo many questions from people who have let their passports from their home countries expire and now are in a pickle because they want  to or need to travel and cannot.  Also, some people let their green cards lapse ( neglect to renew them every 10 years) then have big problems.  When you are living in a foreign country, you must be very careful about these things.  I live in a foreign country, and am very aware of these things.  I hope you are able to get a new passport from your home country now.

  5. Definetely!  Go to the goverment website and click on passport.  There you will find all that you need to know about passports.

But yes, definitely you do need a passport.  Remember, they are backed up due to the high volume of applications, so if your going anytime soon you need to expedite your passport.  It will cost you much more, but it is worth it if your going soon.

    Good Luck!

    Laura :)
