Once I move back to Wales (home country) I want to be able to come back into the US to visit my family who will still be living here... but I know that the US are strict about stuff like that... I heard that if you're a US resident and you leave the US for more than 6 months, you won't be allowed back in the country. Can anyone help me or give information? I've been on government websites but it's too confusing and they don't give you the right answers.

  1. Yes, of course.  As a resident of the UK you will be allowed to use the Visa Waiver Program.  You can come for up to 90 days at a time with no problem at all.  Just do not overstay while here.

File an I-131 with the USCIS at least 90 days BEOFRE you leave.  This will give you 2 years to keep your green card just in case you have a change of mind.  You can find the form here...

  2. i think that the us allows for double citizenship

  3. Just come in threw mexico

  4. If you mean by move back you intend to go back permanently, you should surrender your green card with the immigration office at the US embassy in London. Then you can continue to use Visa Waiver like anyone else from the UK to simply visit the US. If you intend to preserve your green card status, then you should apply for a re-entry permit, as Yak Rider says, that would allow you to stay outside of the US for up to 2 years and return in green card status.

  5. Yes, you can move back to your home country, but not for more than 6 months, because USCIS will think that you are abandoning your legal status, it all depends if you would like to keep your legal status, or if you want to be a us citizent later, just remember that you need 5 years as a permanent resident (lived in the country) to apply for your citizentship.

    good luck with your decision,
