I just got a brand new Ride snowboard. I'm still learning how to carve, I have no problem stopping (when I'm facing down the mountain) but turning and trying to carve facing toward the mountain is a big mess. My side of my board are so sharp they catch in the snow and send me catapulting backward. I try to go on my toes! I am having troubles :( Please any advice would be great!!

  1. I wouldent really advise getting a new board untill you have got your turns sorted out, but the part of your question that sticks out the most is the part where you say you have got a new board but are even worse now. Unfortunately you may have been sold a board that is too advanced or just not right for you at this stage. It would be worth checking your board up on the internet and seeing what level of rider its for, and if its for above intermediate level riders you have good grounds to take it back and demand your money back. Usually when you get a new board and set it up you should find it easier to ride then a rental board as although they are the right level they are often knackered due to having alot of use. Good luck with the riding.

  2. Your board needs to be De-tuned, meaning the edges are not set up ( as is the case with most snowboards). Take it to your local shop and ask them to Detune the edges, this will make them grip, but not catch.

As for riding tips, you're probably shifting your weight too fast. Try acting like a pendulum, swinging slowly onto your toe edge when you turn uphill.

  3. Get your board de-tuned a little bit! When I got my new board this year I just took it to the mountain right away, right when I got onto the trail I totally wiped out and lost all of my stuff... YARDSALE!  I had a hard time at the mountain and kept catching edges and eating sh*t. So I had this guy at a local ski/snowboard shop detune it for me. Its easy and takes 2 minutes (just dulling the edges of the side of the tip and tail a little bit), but I wouldnt advise to do it yourself as you will probably do it wrong and mess up your board.

After you get it detuned you will have an easier time getting used to your new board..
