Question:

I'm a beginner in breeding cockatiels...?

My Cockatiels were checking out their nest box today, they're not mating yet, but just checking it out, the male more than the female. Should I put more nesting material somewhere so if they want more they can put it in?

What else should I do for them to make them comfortable? All answers will help, thanks.

  1. As long as you have enough nesting material in the box, you are fine.  Do not add more to the cage as your tiels will not bring it into the box.  As for the rest, just give them time.  I have found it helps to put in dampened fresh veggies to help bring them around.  If they are inspecting the nestbox, that is a good sign.

    Good luck.

  2. They will work it all out themselves... you will know when they have eggs because they will take shifts, one will eat and sleep and the other will be in the box, then they will change. Mine had some babies last year, but they killed them :(, so we are eagerly awaiting some more eggs and we will be interrupting nature this time around and taking over as we dont want to lose another 4 babies. Anyway, good luck... hope they get freaky soon hahaha :)

  3. i have cockatiels i don't try to breed them.

let them to it them selfs. cockatiels prefer doing it naturally.

My cockatiel layed about 10 eggs
