  1. to tell you the truth I'm not really familiar with the women's ranking points and calendar, but from what I've seen in the men's tour some tournaments this year were played earlier than last year because of the olympics, so the points gained from these tournaments this  year are added and the points gained from the same tournament last year won't be removed until 52 weeks have passed.

    the points are counted according to the last 52 weeks for the player..

    normally the tournaments are played at the same time each year and and the new tournament is exactly 52 weeks apart from the old one.. so the old points get removed at the same time the new points are added.. this year the new points got added and the old ones from last year had to wait for the 52 weeks to get removed.

  2. Here -> http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/rankings?gen...

    You have to look at the last column "Next Off".  That's the deduction points, also known as defending points.  If a player won a tournament last year, she is expected to defend her points.  If she doesn't play in the tournament or advance enough in the same tournament, she will lose a lot of points.  Hope it helps :)
