I'm a contract worker and need to know what type of insurance I need?

I am an A/C tech and am tring to start filing taxes. The tax preparer told me that I need insurance first but I don't know what kind and around how much it costs.

I never heard of needing insurance before you can file your taxes.  I think that you're confused about this.  Go back to the tax preparer and ask for clarification.
