Are corporations supposed to have you fill out a W9 Form? I am a contractor and they said I am supposed to do my own taxes. Is this legal?

  1. if you are not a w-2 employee then you are a 1099 contractor and should fill out a w-9, so they know who to send a 1099 to at the end of the year - of course you have to take care of your own taxes (including employers share of FICA taxes ) if you're in independent contractor - who did you think would take care of them, so start putting 30% of your pay aside for taxes

  2. If you have your own company, then you do your own taxes. If you are an employee of the corporation, then you earn a salary and they take out your taxes.
