heyy so i'm a dancer and im stuck between doing a jazz, modern, or a contemporary/lyrical solo this year for dance in a competition. and i have NO idea what song i should use. I want something nobody really knows so that no one else will have the same song. but i want something that is meaningful and powerful since it will be my senior year of high school. however, i dont have any preferences for a jazz song, anything works for me. so song suggestions would be REALLY helpful!

thanks!!

  1. I have a friend who did a jazz/lyrical solo to Hotel Song by Regina Spektor. hope this helps!

  2. for modern/lyrical/contempory you could try the special two by Missy Higgins

  3. contemporary/lyrical:

    ~Fragile by Delta Goodrem http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=xVPKnNXWr9...

    my favorite! Kiaro is amazing..

    ~Lost by Anouk

    ~Silence by Selena Cross

the links are really nice performances. Hope I helped a bit : ) && good luck~

  4. i agree anything regina spektor is good and iron and wine has good songs. also damien rice. good luck!

  5. "Trust a Try" by Janet Jackson is a very different beat. You can incorporate a couple diff. dance styles into this one.

"Explosive" by Bond is a great one for old-school Jazz, little bit of lyrical.

My personal fav: "Sentimental Song (Reprise)" by Kenny Passarelli. It's a lyrical instrumental, but it's very beautiful. I've done this for a performance and everyone loved it.

  6. Listen to "Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois" by Sufjan Stevens. Weird song title, I know... but it's a beautiful song and I find it to be a great song to dance and express yourself to. It's on the shorter side, but my personal opinion is that shorter dances hold the audience's attention all the way through and tend to make more of an impact on the audience... leaves them wanting more. Good luck!

I also agree that Regina Spektor songs would be good... listen to 20 Years of Snow.

  7. I did an awesome choreogeraphy to the song "Beautiful" by Bethany Dillon. It was a contemporary/lyrical piece. It got first place in my age division! Listen to it here:http://www.rhapsody.com/bethanydillon
