I'm a dancer and have done ballet for about twelve or thirteen years now and for about three years (thats as far as i can think) I've been having hip problems. I haven't had it checked out yet (i've been putting it off) and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas to help it...like after classes or before classes what can i do to make it not hurt that bad...lately its been hard to do some stuff b/c it hurts so bad...does anyone have anything that could help? Like icing and heating...will that help? or some exercises/warmups i can do that will help? Thanks!!!

  1. unless you torn or broke something dont go the dr. try getting a massage (deep tissue to address your "deep 6 rotators", hamstrings, quads, glutes, and hip flexors). if after the massage youre still in pain, then go to the dr. but try the massage first. the dr will give you muscle relaxants and send you home (muscle relaxants are bandaids) a massage therapist can fix the problem at hand and not just cover it up.

  2. go to the doctor.  you need to get it checked out ASAP because hip problems left alone can lead to back and knee problems.  a few years ago my sister was in a car crash that pushed her tailbone into her femer bone and she was in the hospital for a very long time.  she lost both of her splits and was not very good for a while, but with physical therapy she got much better.  she doesnt always listen to doctors and danced even with the hip problems and now she has terrible knee problems.  just know that the longer that you leave it alone the worse it is going to get.  i too have knee problems that have been left alone and they are getting worse and worse.  good luck and let me know what happens

  3. You should really just go to the doctor, thats the best thing to do as they can help your hip get better, you might just be making it worse  x

  4. Go to a Chiropractor!

my sister had the same thing... He fixed it good. =)

    Best of luck to you.

  5. AH, i have hip problems too!

i took a few week break and babied

it alot, and now the pain went down

alot, but when i do leaps and foutes

and stuff i can still feel it, it was bad

cause this happened in the middle

    of competition season and perfroming

on stage hurt so bad, i just had to push

through it, and i would get off the stage

limping! since i was taking a break on

that leg, i was using my other leg, which

wasnt my good side, alot more, which

actually helped make my bad leg stronger,

but taking a break is a really good idea,

then if its still hurting after a break on it

for a few weeks, go see a doctor, they can

help with physical therapy and stuff, injuries

in dance suckkk, but there very common,

    good luck !

  6. You need to go to the orthopedic surgeon as soon as possible because they may be able to save your tendons and muscles now.

I have arthritis in my hips now and my tendons are weak so parts of the muscle will snap over the wrong side of my bone...it's painful and aggravating and it could have been fixed had i known there were options years ago when it started.

Make sure you always stretch your hips in particular out before and after every class. Drink more water than you already are. You can take glucosamine and chondroitin vitamins and this will help restore the damage. Also if they're really sore try icing it for 10 minutes and then heating it for 10 minutes do that about 3 times. That should help relieve some tension.

  7. i have hip problems too (ah, what dancing does to us, lol) but mine doesnt appear to be as serious as yours. i think you should see a doctor. they'll probably have the best tips to help you feel better :)

  8. Ballet puts pressure on many parts of the body that weren't intended to carry so much weight.

The ballet is slowly wearing your hips out before their time.

Stopping ballet is the only thing that will alleviate that in the long run.
