I'm a hard-worker w/an extensive background in restaurant & caterering. Is there ANYBODY willing to give me a chance? I have a daughter that I'm responsible for. I NEED TO BE WORKING! T.W.C. has'nt been of any assistance at all. The jobs they list are male -related. I've searched daily w/o any luck. I don't get benefits from any state agency! Not trying to live off the system, just support my family! Please let me know if you know of anything. Thanks.

  1. The only place I can think of is the Delancey Street Foundation but they are based in San Francisco.  Maybe if you contact them they can refer you to something in your local area?

  2. Hi Susie,

I happen to have a friend of mine who works with  trying to get employment with people who have had a brush with the law. But he's here in San Antonio and hopefully he will be able to put you in contact with someone there in Dallas.

His name is Steve Huerta and the number is (210) 227-3463.

    Tell him "Saul" referred you.

By the way,are you registered with  Work In Texas?

Click on "Register As Job Seeker".

  3. You know what just came to mind?  Chick-fil-A restaurants!  I know they are crummy retail, BUT, they are a Christian organization, and should be willing to step up to the plate and at least give you the opportunity to give it a try!

Also, check with area churches.  We Christians are suppose to be the FIRST IN LINE to forgive, forget, and welcome the opportunity to help people!  Churches have great networking, and members are from wide backgrounds, so there should be some people there who can assist you in contacting someone from their church in the restaurant industry.

I would also show further incentive and resolve to the people who are helping you by offering to attend a local college to sharpen up your skills.  The college I work at has a hospitality degree program that teaches cooking as well as management skills (why not go into management?).  No need to change careers - just move up the ladder so that you can better support yourself and your family.

*** Always keep it in your heart that GOD does NOT see you as any kind of a felon...he sees you as a Mom struggling to make ends meet.  Don't let the doom-sayers get you down.  Don't let those who snob you get you down.  Don't let the bills get you down.

God is truly in your corner.  He loves you.  He knows that we humans are full of mistakes and need to be forgiven!  Pray on this, Sister, and keep God close to your hip, so that you pray often to Him for his guidance, advice, and comfort.  Allow God to lead you where you need to go.  Watch because if any doors are closed, God always opens a window....
