My goal for the remaining 21 days until summer is to get as many books donated as possible, so that my students will have their own small library to read over the summer. I am having a problem getting bookstores to donate books...any suggestions?Used books are great too... I just NEED books!

I would love to have enough books to give my students the joy of reading over the summer!!

  1. Talk with your department specialist or the Reading specialist or with the principal of your building.  They might know of grants you could write or sources for books or parent groups or business partners who have been willing to help in the past.

  2. I think it's wonderful that you are trying to get books for your kids! Thanks for being a great teacher.

Here are some ideas off the top of my head:

check with libraries - they may have some old books they are pulling out of circulation

put an ad some where - local newspapers, websites, etc. - to ask for donations

ask retiring teachers for some of their books

check yard sales (I don't know if you have these in S. Bronx) ;)

maybe try contacting a children's books publisher to see if they have any slightly damaged/misprinted or unsellable (but still readable) books

That's all I can think of right now

    Hope this helps

  3. Ask some churches in the area to have a book drive or  Make your own  books from the website Reading A to Z.

  4. just keep calling. tell them you want the for extremely poor kids in the bronx (if you havent been telling them that).

hey youre doing a great thing. dont give up. im not very religious, but im thinking of my confirmation passage

"Ask and you shall recieve" Matthew 7:7 i believe
