  1. id depends how particular you are about areas,if its council itll be same as edinburgh, you can get flat quickly if you are a/homeless b/drug addict/alcoholic c/non working single parent etc,i looked at result table for edin housing and MOST houses in good n bad areas go to above catagories,if you want a decent area then mate you will have to fight tooth n claw and bug housing dept till you get what you want(im doing likewise in edinburgh for my daughter, she doesnt want a bad area)or could you exchange?its another option.as for buying, check out some of the glasgow estate agents, also try housing associations as some cater for the older person,,good luck!

  2. If talking about a council flat it would take a long time as there is a long waiting list and it would depend what area of Glasgow you want, you can sub let but it is very expensive in Glasgow, a 1 bed flat would be about £400 per month plus council tax of about £120 per month. Glasgow will have changed a lot from what you remember it, there is lots of crime and racial problems in Glasgow.

  3. Check out this link on applying for a house with GHA - http://www.gha.org.uk/content/default.as...

The housing list is based on a points system, and I am sure you will have to wait - how long though depends on how many points you have. Another option is to rent, although the price will be very high (unless you qualify for housing benefit). Good luck!

  4. If you're not going to be privately renting then it will probably be very difficult.  As someone else pointed out, if you have drug/alcohol problems, have a social worker, just out of jail etc then you will probably be ok and get one fairly quickly.

I was homeless and had to stay with family for a while, sharing a bedroom with them and a toddler.  The only place I got offered was a ground floor flat in a street full of dealers.  It was the worst street in the area, where no-one else wanted to live.

This was about 4 years ago though, it's now GHA which may be a bit better.  Good luck though!

  5. Glasgow is a wonderful place with amazing people. I love Glasgow.
