  1. yes

  2. Though most schools use the FAFSA form to guide the financial aid office in determining a student's need, scholarships are often awarded purely on the basis of academic merit, and are not necessarily need-based.

Universities offer their own scholarship programs - those would be coordinated either through your academic department (your major), or through the financial aid office. You should contact the dean's office of your college and/or the financial affairs office for more info about any scholarships that might be available to you, based upon your academic record at the university.

There are also a large number of private scholarships that are not restricted to the students of any particular school or major. The financial aid office at your school probably maintains a large database and provides reference books that detail some of the many programs available, but there are also various internet scholarship search sites.

Be VERY cautious about hooking up with any scholarship search service that promises to help you find scholarships. All of these companies will charge you a fee, and you are generally responsible for the fee if they find you scholarships that you are eligible for, rather than if they find you scholarships that you are actually awarded.

One internet search site that gets frequent mention is fastweb.com. I have never used them and I can not vouch for the quality of the service myself, but you will see that name mentioned, and it's worth taking a look at.

One final thing worth mentioning - your university has some kind of financial aid deadline for the fall semester. At some schools, that deadline may have already passed. If you're looking for aid money for the coming school year, you really need to get right onto this - right now.

    I hope this helped.
