I'd like to be a psychiatrist, but I'm afraid I'm not just not smart enough.

I'd like to be a psychologist if not psychiatry.

But I do really well with computer coding and things, and its like a gift ever since i was about 10, I was able to just get on a computer and figure out programs, CSS, scripts...

But I have a great interestt in helping others and I am very interesting in the human mind..

  1. Just enjoy your senior year.  You'll have plenty of time to rack your brains about the future and gigantic assignments and all your senior year.  I would know, I just graduated.  My junior year was the best year of my life...senior year is h**l.  Maybe think about designing an operating system that's customizable to the person's mental profile or something, lol.  I also wanted to be a psychiatrist or psychologist.  It's fun to analyze.

  2. I decided I was going to be a pilot since I was three.

I know how fake that sounds but it's true. I've had an obsession my whole life.

So, any age, one, six, twenty three, thirty seven, is a good time. It's whenever you are ready. Don't feel there's a certain 'time limit' in which you need to decide. Listen to your heart.

Computer programming may get you through college, and hey, psychology is the second most popular major. [Business is first] A lot of people have a huge passion for it, a number of which don't even go into a field that involves it.

I am going to major in psychology because I find it interesting and to be a pilot you need a college degree....

  3. You've got plenty of time to decide.  When you get to college, take some intro classes in the fields that you find interesting and decide which click best for you.

  4. Ahhh my sister is going to be a senior this year and is stressing the same thing you are...

In order to be a psych it takes many years... and if you decide to just get a BA in psychology you wont  be able to get a job...

As for computers you may enjoy it but can you see yourself doing it as your career?

Point is you still have alot of time... you have to finish hs and then your first 2 years of college is pre req classes ( which is like hs all over again) so you still have plenty oftime to figure things  out....

Maybe try and think of abroad field that way you can take your degree in differnt directions....

    goodluck....

  5. You know what they say: don't choose your career, let the career choose you. Try different things and see which one suits you.

  6. Having a specific direction certainly will not hurt you at this point, in fact it will help you in some ways, if you can be certain you will not change your major.  Most college freshmen change their majors at least once, if not twice.

The only problem with making the decision while entering college, is the wasted time you spend that first year, pursuing a field you will become disinterested in.  And so you know, most psychologist I know, including my sister-in-law, take crappy jobs with little pay!  Their is little demand for psychologist, because it is an easy field and so many students enter it.

Anything working with computer's is going to open doors for you, as this is the way of the future!  Your future is unlimited with a degree in computer science.  Think of one aspect of life, currently, which doesn't use computers!  I think this would definitely be a secure career choice, with very substantial future!

  7. At your age, I was very interested in the human mind also, so I decided to major in psychology in college. After the first class, I decided it was not for me and majored in something else. You have plenty of time to decide, so just follow your interests at this point, and you will know as you go along if that's the direction to go.
