I'm a keen tennis player but have little opportuinities to play. How can I train on my own effectively?

I don't know if hitting against the wall is realy any good since it discourages a propper follow through. Any ideas on how to up my game

  1. I'd have to say if you live by tennis courts try and get coaching and then start games because you'll never get any challenges from a wall when i bet you already know playing with someone else will make you better.


  2. You can always work on your serve. Also, try standing really close to the wall and just keep the ball in play, this will help you maintain and improve your reflexes.

  3. i've been playing for 30 years, i pretty much self-taught.

    i agree with you that hit against wall is not something beginner-medium player can do well and enjoy, because the form and footwork is not there to hit the ball consistantly, so you will spend a lot of time pick up balls behind the wall and get all frustrated.

    i learned a lot from reading tennis magazine; there's a lot of tips in it, also i watch a lot of match videos, i follow good player's matches, like Federer these days. i taped them and watch them slo-mo over and over.

    but most of all, you still need to go out and play. you need to practice what you've learn from the book and the tape, otherwise the lessons will remain theories.
