I'm a high school student that wants to be a politician when I get older and I like the Republican Party much more than the Democratic because of various reasons. But the only problem is that I believe Abortion should be legal and if that overpopulation is a genuine issue threatening the survival of the human race on earth, it should be used. The only law I like that China has is that it regulates it's population which is WAY out of control. Everything else about the Democratic Party I pretty much hate though, so could I be a Republican when I get older or am I going to have to be an Independent?

  1. There are some pro-choice republicans (Tom Ridge).  Your location will be the determining factor.  The local party will support you or disown you.

  2. Well the republican party just made a complete ban on embryonic stem cell research as apart of its platform.  It wasn't unanimous, but clearly the insane theocrats won out.  They also support criminal consequences for people who assist in euthanasia.  They support big governments invasion into our bodies.  They oppose and support religious intolerance.. Abuse the patriot act by using it to spy on people who engage in political descent.  In some  cases actually arresting Americans. They argue deregulation with pseudoscience. George Bush jr. gave his ear to Pat Robertson who once suggested nuking the State Department.

The worst part about the republicans is when liberty is concerned, the tyranny of the majority can supersede it.

By the way I don't plan on voting for either McCain or Obama. They both suck.

  3. It will depend on two factors: how important that belief is to you, and what your local Republican party is like.  If you're not willing to compromise that belief, and your local Republican party is very socially conservative and isn't really hurting for members, then you'll have a tough time of it, but don't assume that's the case -- big parties don't get to be big by insisting that everybody believe exactly the same thing.

If you're a good campaigner and are good at raising money and getting votes, then the Republican party (or any other party!) will embrace you.  Republicans in general hold a pretty wide range of opinions on many issues.  However, if abortion rights are really, really important to you, you'll be frustrated as a Republican because many of your fellow party members will be working against your belief.

  4. In the early 1800s, the English economist Thomas Malthus PROVED that the Earth could only support a population of approximately 500 million people, that the world's population would keep increasing exponentially, and that by 1900, famine would be a worldwide and permanent way of life.  It has since been proven time and again that the world can only support X number of people.  The problem that Malthus and everyone else who tries to put a limit on our capacity for these things is that they fail to take into consideration advances of technology.  In the past 30 years, the world's population has doubled, but the food production has quadrupled and only 5% more land is being used.  This is the trend, it has been the trend, and global overpopulation in the next 1,000 years is basically an impossibility.

I am not going to touch the abortion issue because if the volume of information out there hasn't swayed your opinion, there is nothing that I am going to be able to say here to convince you otherwise.  What I would say, however, is that fears of overpopulation should not direct your opinion.

There are certainly pro-choice Republicans... too many, in this pro-lifer's opinion, but Republicans don't blackball someone over disagreement on a single issue.  Party officials have always said that this is an issue that good people can disagree on.

  5. I'm a neocon and I'm with you on this one I also think they should control guns just not mine

You might give some thought about China and this over population and how they control it They well be in big trouble in a few years just as Japan is right now

  6. While I disagree with your stand on abortion and overpopulation, there is plenty of room for you in the Republican Party. There are many liberal Republicans and there are certainly many pro-abortion Republicans. The thing you'll need to decide is whether where you live is liberal leaning. You might need to relocate to a more liberal Republican district or state. But it is definitely doable.

  7. You, bet. There are a lot of Republicans that feel that its a woman's choice. They don't feel that anyone has the right to tell her what she can or can't do with her body.

Trust me, you're not alone on that issue.
