Okay, here's the thing: My son turned 2 back in January...here it is now July...I still haven't taken him to get his 2-year check-up...and I am sure there's vaccinations that he needs...It's not that I am being a bad mom...it's just I have no health insurance for him (which I am working on) and I am worried about the whole vaccine-autism link...I am making him an appointment this month to take him to get his shots and check-up...but what do you think the consequences will be for waiting too long? Am I going to get chewed out by the doctor? I honestly wasn't being neglectful...just broke and scared of autism...what do you think?

  1. Autism/Measles

No contest to me Hun ..i went to a child's funeral due to measles a few months ago ... Autism was present in my son Thomas long before he had the vaccine and if Autism is in the genes then they will get it nothing to do with this vaccine and both my twins have had it Thomas (pictured left) has severe autism and his twin sister Kylie does not have it which says to me its in Thomas's genes and Just one of those things that happen... autism is tough but measles can be deadly

  2. I'm in Australia so I'm not sure if the vaccinations are the same but my son didn't get his 18 month vaccine and when I called to see which vaccination he had missed out on they said it was for the chicken pox and not to worry about it because he'll get that in his booster shots when he's 4. As long as your bubs is fully up to date with all the others there really isn't anything to stress about.

If the Dr tries to give you an ear bashing about it I'd just say "well I'm responsible enough to be worrying about it now thanks for your support. Help to make child health care easier, and you wouldn't have this problem now would you." Good luck and don't worry too much, there's plenty of time!!

  3. The last shots my son had were at 18 months. I wouldnt worry about it. Some people dont even give their kids any vaccinations. My son is now three and a half and the last time he saw the doctor was at two

  4. There is no link between vaccines and autism.  They have done research after research and even recalled vaccines in question to take out anything that may have been a problem.  Mercury was the big scare and that is even found in the fresh fish people buy and eat.  He needs his 2 year checkup and you may be able to just get it done at the childrens clinic if you have one in your area and they will do it for a smaller charge.  At 2 years old my boys didn't get any vaccines but they did get a lead and iron check.

  5. i think you shouldnt worry about it at all.

If your doctor can not understand your worry then he is not the right doctor for you plus an insurance problem is nothing you can control

As far as the autism scare

the shot that some people are wanting to link to autism is the mmr

He probably had that one at 12 month check up

I Do not think you are wrong in waiting

I waited and spaced out my sons vaccines as well (I dont think they should get so many so fast)

but dont try to take things into your own hands find a doc who will listen and offer to help space out his vaccines so he gets them in a timely manner and you dont feel neglectful

  6. mmr is the one that they think is one of the links to autism! for the shots there are usually free clinics you just have to do some research on finding them in your area. some people believe that children can develop autism when they get the mmr shot because there immune was too low i recommends you to have him immune system checked first. then go ahead with the shots if his immune is good!

  7. They wont say a thing. It isn't like you have waited years just months. Don't stress it. And don't let things like the Autism medication things scare you, all that is way blown out of proportion.
