I am 31 yrs old w/ 3 kids in elementary & high school. What are some good resources in determining a career field & what industries have the most demand & their pay ranges? I also need to know how to apply for grants. (DFW, TX resident)

  1. There is a HUGE demand for nurses. Pay (from what I hear) is GREAT in TX. What ever school you choose to attend may also be able to give you more resources in determining what is right for you. To apply for grants, you can go to fafsa website  there are also some other programs that can help with the pay. I'm not sure what they are called in TX though. I live in LA and we have something called WIA (uses government money like a grant), there is also something called the STEP program through the office of family support, I am not sure what the qualifications for STEP are, but it is easy to get into the WIA program if you are a healthcare student.

  2. health care is a no brainer.  There is also a vast demand for IS (information Systems) work, but more specifically in programming and design.

Find the college or school that you want to attend and ask them to show you placement rates for various degrees/diplomas. That should help you.

Applying for grants - first step is to fill out your FAFSA and see if you qualify for title IV funding (grants and stafford loans).  If there is not enough aid there to cover your tuition, try applying for scholarships at fastweb

best of luck to you in your education

  3. Get your diplomas and certifications together and contact the school or university that you want to attend. They will tell you the requirements.
