To send an IM....

You need to invite people to your friends/buddy list or know the Yahoo! ID of the person you want to IM.

On Yahoo! Messenger, click on Actions on the menu and then click on "Send an Instant Message" or right click on the friends name in the listor double click on the friends name in the list.

If you used your first and last name when you signed up... you need to read about changing your My Contact Details
