  1. How old are you?

If you are (I believe) 14 or older, you will need a state-issued photo ID or a passport.  And I'm pretty sure that's true whether you are traveling as unaccompanied minors or not.

ADDED:  Are you traveling with a school group, or as part of a tour group?  If so, it's likely that the security clearances have already been taken care of.

However, if you and your friend are simply flying together without an adult, I'm nearly POSITIVE that you DO need a photo ID.

Unless things have changed recently ... 3 years ago, my daughter flew alone at age 15, and she WAS required to have a photo ID issued by the Ohio DMV.  The airline (Continental) would NOT accept a school ID, birth certificate, or Social Security card.

If you know what airline you are flying, you could check their website (or, probably, your boarding pass if you already have it) to see what type of ID is required in your case.

  2. Hi There

You will only need a school ID. You may use a Drivers License if you have one, But only a school ID is required for minors under the age of 18 years. If you do not have either a Birth Certificate or Social Security will be allowed. Hope this helps you . I work for an airline and I'm sure all our policies are the same.
