  1. Clean the cage daily. Make sure they have plenty of food and water. And the most important thing of all.....Don't, I mean absolutely never!, feed them after midnight!

  2. Cage:Are hamster cages the best type of housing for pet hamsters? By cages I'm referring to the barred variety - usually made of stainless steel and usually with a plastic tray underneath. The general rule of thumb is to get as big a cage as you can possibly afford. The hamster cage may look big when you first buy it in comparison to the hamster but after you've put in a food bowl, the toys, the exercise wheel, it will start to look pretty cramped and hamsters who don't get enough exercise can develop cage paralysis, any good cage is a critterTrail cage or any large enough wired cage. Can I use a second hand hamster cage for my new pet hamster?

Yes you can but make sure you clean it thoroughly before you put your new pet hamster in it - disinfect it well because the previous hamster occupant could've died of some infectious hamster disease and you wouldn't want your new baby to catch whatever he/she had! Go to this webiste to learn how to make one:http://my-ham-dolce.piczo.com/home-madec... The cage should also contain lots of toys for the hamster to chew. Wood chews can be attached to the side of the cage but you can also give it cardboard tubes as well. When it comes to a bed for the hamster, then a small box placed in the cage will suffice. Place it in a far corner of the cage and if you cut a small doorway in it, the hamster will fill it itself with bedding and chewed cardboard from the toys. The cage should be kept in a warm place, out of drafts but also out of direct sunlight. The water bottle should be attached to the side of the cage and kept clean and full at all times.

Food: Feeding a hamster is quite simple. Use a specially designed kind of hamster food mix a couple of times a day, and feed it with some fruit and vegetable everyday.

If the hamster hasn't tried a certain food before, don't give it a lot to begin with so that the digestive system gets a chance to get used to it.

If there is any food that has been lying for a few days then get rid of it or it will go bad and make the hamster ill if it is eaten.

Exersize: You should exercise your hamster regularly by taking him out of the cage and placing him in a special exercise ball. Be careful not to place it near stairs as it can be very dangerous if it were to roll down them, the hamster could be fatally injured.

Since hamsters are most active at night, the best time to let them exercise and to clean their cage and so on is in the evening or first thing in the morning, but not in the middle of the day as this is when they prefer to rest.

How To Hold Your Hamster: Handling a hamster should be done carefully as they have very sharp teeth in the front. They will really only bite if they feel frightened or threatened, so handle with caution at all times and don't make sudden movements or tease and annoy the hamster. If there are children looking after it then make sure they are aware of this.

  6. Well, one of the first things I can tell you, is to give the little critter a day or three to settle in before you start handling him.  They need daily fresh water & food etc (but I think you know this) and needs its cage to be cleaned out frequently.  We got ours a plastic ball which he uses to run around the house without risking being eating by our other four-legged creatures!  (Don't leave them in the cage for longer than 30 minutes, though!) Otherwise - they are adorable little pets and will give you a lot of fun laughs!

  7. you need a good sturdy cage, they like to play alot so get a wheel for them, and please WHATEVER YOU DO...DO NOT GET THEM WET!!!!

    OR FEED THEM AFTER MIDNIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Change out he bedding weekly, do touch ups everyday, give fresh food and water everyday, and lastly handle with care! I hope this helps!!!!
