I'm 37 yr old, 6' tall, about 200 lbs. Have only ridden as a child, but am looking to buy a bike. I'm looking at either a 750cc or an 1100cc (both Honda). Do you guys think I would out grow the 750 too fast? Not planning an taking any really long rides, the longest would be an hour and a half. Mainly just used to communte to work (less than 10 miles round trip). Any suggestions?

  1. oh gosh, another one of those ED-prone latecommers

a really long ride is if you buy a bike and ride it 1200mi home

what makes you think you can ever ride any modern 750 to it's limits? what makes you think you will ever 'outgrow' any modern 750? what is all that talk about outgrowing bikes anyways? after 25+ years I am back to a 650single and have more fun and am no slower than before

@ the dude with the 1600: yes, sure I could handle one of those rolling roadblocks, but I don't want to be slow and annoying

I if you want to commute 5mi one way get a bicycle

if you want to have fun and get decent gas mileage get something with ~50 horses and little bulk and little weight

and take the MSF class please, if not for your sake do it for the rest of us folks out there

  2. Never buy the least size you think you can handle.

You are sure to regret not going larger.

    I am only 5'7 and rode a 1600 Yamaha.Too big? No,just right.

Go for the biggest you can afford.

Do not get the 750,you will feel inadequate next to other bikers.

Look for a bike with a comfortable seat, has a nice list of aftermarket accessories, and shaft or belt drive.

Hondas are great bikes, you can't go wrong there.

  3. sit on a few you will know it when you sit on it if its right or not it will just feel good...

  4. I have three bikes, two are the ones you ask about.

The 750 is easier to ride.  The 1100 has more power and will run 75 on the highway easier.

1100 feels like it weighs more and seems to sit higher.

If you want good mileage and don't ride freeways, sit on a 750 and see if it fits you.

  5. might as well get the big one unless your really worried about putting gas in the thing.

  6. I have a 750cc Honda for 2 years now.  I ride all over and love it.  I take 5 day trips with my bike club and do pretty well at keeping up with them.  I have to admit that since I like long trips across several states, I would like a 1100 instead but the 750 does just fine.  If you are only using it for cummuting, it will be better on gas a fine for expressway travel.
