I'm a new vegetarian, is it typical for me to depend on soy/tofu at first?

I'm really taking in the soy milk, the chocolate flavor appeals to me. Is it a bad thing if I have too much?

And is it possible to gain alot of weight from that?

I hardly drink silk's brand, though.

Plus I have a tofu almost every day.

I eat about 6-7 fruit servings, as well as vegetables. I snack on that alot.

I've just been craving for those alot, I'm craving less and less as days go by, though.

I go overboard on wheat, soy, tofu, etc.

I've cut out eggs and milk out of my diet, for good.

I've been a vegetarian for 2 months.

  1. One to 3 servings of soy a day is just fine. Most new veggies think soy when it comes to protein but soy isn't the only veggie protein. You need to also eat: other beans, peas, nuts, seeds and whole grains; along with your fruits and veggies.

  2. I think it's typical to overload on a certain handful of things when you first go veg because you are still in the "learning" phase. For me, I overloaded on cheese because I replaced the meat on my sandwiches with it and everything else. I gained weight for probably the first 6 months. Once you have a few more months behind you, you will start incorporating more of a variety as you learn more about what you can eat and how to prepare it, etc.

  3. since youre only 14 I would suggest your pediatritian recommend a nutritionist.  But When you consume lots of sodium it makes you hungry check your nutrition labels.  I'm a adult and I keep my sodium under 500mg a day.  But since you are still growing you need to be taught what is appropriate four your age and health

  4. I don't think you have to drink soy milk because milk isn't really meat.  Tofu is really good with meso soup.  Try these awesome veggie buffalo wings.  They are really good but extremely spicy though.

  5. i would try to incorporate more veggies in your diet.  I'm not a vegetarian, but if you are overboarding on wheat and soy, it's not a right balance.  If you want to overboard on something, overboard on veggies.

  6. wow! lol yeah! i LOVE chocolate soy milk too! but i have been vegetarian all my life (im 14) and i can drink a cartoe of that stuff in two days! lol! but i think it is fattening! i never looked at the nutrition (lol oopsies) but my mom told me it is,, but i still love it! i dont hav to worry about puss and blood! lol

i dont like silk either,, the chocolate is like,,,bitter kindof..idk,, if u live down south then you have GOT to get publix brand!! YUMMO!!! my absolute favorite!!  (silk chocolate soymilk tastes really yummy frosen though! lol)

tofu is probally the best thing you can put in ur body, lol, i love it too, from chineese resturants,, mmmm,,, order it some time! fried tofu with broclii and garlic sauce! TO. DIE. FOR. lol.....

its not bad to have an egg or two once in a while! but milk is a no no! ummm,, i love vege meat! and umm,, i think that if you went to an adventist book store,, they would probally sell it there!! (mine does!) and buy loma linda hot dogs...in a can....those are soo good! and umm try the all! they have the big franks, and uhh i cant remember the other names, and i dont remember which ones are my favorite! but if you pour the whole can of one of the types of them (im so sry i forgot!) into a sauce pan and the let all of the juice cook into the hotdogs and once you cant see the liquid anymore,, EAT THEM!! THEY ARE AMAIZING!! lol,, and umm..yeah! sooo,, umm i love morning star grillers and stripples, and pretty much all of their breakfast vege meat...so umm,, i think i told u all i can think of at the moment ! lol!

    enjoy being a vegetarian!! (:

  7. i eat a ton of tofu and i've been vegetarian for a year. i did used to eat more. i don't think it's a bad thing. soy is super-tasty. silk soymilk is great & baked tofu is orgasmic. if you want more protein and less soy try eating beans or lentils. indian food has a lot of great vegan options that are healthy, cheap, and tasty.

if you have too much wheat try quinoa, rice, corn, and potatoes. it will help you avoid boredom. as long as you aren't getting stomach aches there's no problem with a lot of soy, especially if it's unprocessed stuff like tofu or soy milk. just don't eat too much fake meat, it's not good to overdose on that stuff.
