I would like to know what are the specifications we should look into while buying a camera., any ideal brands, Any websites to help?

I guess you are aiming at SLR cameras in that price range. If you are buying in India, better to buy Canon or Nikon. My choice is canon because of lens varieties. If you are beginner to enthusiastic then Canon 350 D might suit for you. I had used it and found good. Keep it in mind that in photography lens is more important that camera. It is always better to spent more for lens than camera.

FYI. I am using Olympus SLR and felt Olympus is also very good but may not be available in India.
