  1. Once you move to the US, you'll need to get an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. Otherwise, most auto repair shops won't hire you. If you do get hired without an (ASE), you'll earn half what a certified mechanic earns. If you are a master mechanic on one brand of auto (Jag, BMW, Land Rover, etc...), you'll be more desired at those dealerships  and can make very good money. A lot of mechanics I know work at a shop during the week and do repairs out of their houses on the weekend.

  2. think you apply for a green card which will take a while to process then browse the net for jobs..good luck!thats where i would like to be x

  3. The BIG problem is that unless you have a child, parent or spouse living in the U.A> who can sponsor you, or have a super rare job skill and extremely high educational level...U.K. citizens simply cannot immigrate to the U.S.  The only way you could apply to immigrate would be through the Diversity Lottery Program...this requires signing up for the lottery 2 years ahead of time, then only about one of every 60 people is chosen for further evaluation.  It is a slim chance at best, BUT..U.K. citizens cannot currently apply through this program as the U.K. is over the quota for this 5 yr. period.  You may be able to apply in the future, then it takes about 8 years, lots of money, paperwork, frustration, etc.  Very few people have any idea how difficult immigration is until they look into it seriously.  Millions of people , including a huge number of people in the U.K. want to live in the U.S.  Only about 50,00 a year are allowed to immigrate to the U.S.  the only way to work in the U.S. without actually immigratingg is to find an employer who will give you a contract for a specific period of time for a specific job.  You can research the sites below for all this info.  Very few Americans have any idea that it is nearly impossible for U.K. and E.U. citizens to immigrate to the U.S.  This situation is similar for Americans wanting to live in the U.K. or Europe

  4. You'd need to spend five glorious minutes in the closet with lovable TV alien ALF.

After that you'd have to apply for a green card.
