My editor asks me if i watched political speeches...But they all sound cliche and I have a lot of personal matters that are more important. Does anyone else think it's not worth it to watch the speeches...

I know I should be watching them, but I find them sooooo boring....

  1. Nah I lived on for years without following politics.  Fortunately for you, it doesn't interest you because truthfully, neither side really knows the "facts".

  2. I work in the field as well.  I actually like politics and am fascinated by the whole process.  You are just not a political reporter and should perhaps just concentrate in other areas of journalism.

  3. Yes, your IQ Is seriously too high.

  4. Depends on what you are reporting..if you are a political reporter and you have no interest in politics then you should probably switch to another area. There are loads of reporting jobs; sports, fashion, beauty, consumer products, technology..etc and you don't have to be interested in politics at all.

  5. It's ok...don't feel bad.  I never cared before a few years ago really...I would go in and out of politics and it got boring then interesting and then boring...some people are made for it and some arent'...

  6. It's okay.  It's just not your thing, yet.

When I was in my 20s, one of my older supervisors was talking about C-SPAN and how he found it so interesting.  He was a brilliant man and I thought I'd give it a try.  I watched for a whole two minutes and felt like gouging my eyeballs out with a spoon.

Well, guess what?  Now that I am older, I have to admit that I have watched entire lawmaking sessions on C-SPAN and found them really informative.

I'm not sure how old you are but if you have personal matters that are more important, you should tend to them first.  And, honestly, you are right about political speeches.  But it helps to watch them so that you can get a feel for the candidates.  While the speeches may not work for you, there may be something in one of them that will make you want to do some research on your own and help you make an informed choice.

Since you are a reporter, I am sure that you will do your homework.  So, don't feel like there's something wrong with you.

  7. No, reporters who get into politics shouldnt be taken seriously.  The c**p I read about, I could care less most of the time!  Breaking News! Palin has a hang nail! Don't voter for her!  Thats pretty much the c**p you read.

  8. It's only the future of our nation.  I can certainly understand why you would be bored.

  9. then the media really isn't your job
