  1. A return ticket.

    The stamp in your passport is a 3 month visa.  Then you have to leave for 72 hours and get stamped in again.

    If you are working, studying, etc the rules are stricter.

If you are a citizen of the United States you do not  need a visa to cisit Costa Rica.  See 1st sie below and read under Entry Requirements.  If you are a legal resident  ( green card holder), it depends on your nationality.  You can use the site below to  to see if you need a visa.  Just enter your nationality and destination and click for the info.

  3. A US resident simply needs a passport.

  4. Just have an up to date passport and a big wad of money.
