I'm sixteen, and I got caught in a parking lot with my friend going three mph by the police in my neighborhood. Called both of our parents and mine grounded me from driving privs, & I haven't been able to drive for 2 mnths.

Again, I wasn't thinking at all, and my friend and I drove ablock in her moms rentl cuz her mom said it was okay since it was just a block, & thr was a roundabout at the end. In the middle of the roundabout, we were stopped by a cop for "not stopping at a stop sign" when there was no stop sign, but we didnt have time to figure that out when the cop stopped us so we assumed there was one we didnt see. It was wrong to be driving my friend around, but I also got stopped for no reason. I was only driving literally a block, goingaroundtheroundabout, and coming back down the block and parking. My dad knows about it and is really disspointed and maynot let me drive to schoolthisyear[I live 30minsaway]especially when mom finds out. How can i calm them down & getoutofthis?

  1. Let them freak out a bit, then tell them that you should drive to school, if it's thirty minutes away just remind them that you'll be saving them the time and the effort to get you there.  Of course bring it up after you have the conversation about driving people around underage. Make sure you're not confrontational, just say that it makes way more sense for you to drive.

Also don't do anything that's against your provisional license until then!  Just follow the rules, as stupid as they may seem.  Getting caught is way worse.

If they still won't let you drive, give them time to cool down, they'll change their minds eventually and fighting with them will only make it that much worse.

  2. Why not just obey the law if it says you can not do something then don't.  Moving a car one inch was wrong so do not. I hope you can not get out  of it then you will remember hopefully. You are not any better than anybody else they obey the law so should  you.

  3. I dont think theres any way out of it. Also, i dont kno of any roundabouts that have a stop sign...All the ones i go past have a 'give way' sign...so unless you infringed that I dont see the problem.

Also, WHY DIDNT YOU JUST  LET YOUR FRIEND DRIVE?!!? He was on his P plates, it wouldve been perfectly legal!

  4. Let's face it, you're not getting out of it.

Don't look at this as a lecture, just as an insight into why your driving priveleges are revoked.

When I say you lack the judgement needed to take responsibility for a operating a vehicle, this is what I mean:

"I was only driving literally a block, going around the roundabout, and coming back down the block and parking. "

You made the choice to risk a year of driving priveleges for the fun of driving two blocks?

    After already getting caught once?

Surely you can understand that you don't yet have the ability to make good choices.

Now your parents have a choice;  turn you loose in a death machine (which a car is, believe me), or wait until you show some maturity.

So, it's not about punishment, it's about doing the right thing.

  5. I dont believe you were driving in a parking lot because they are private property and a cop can not pull you over in one. Id say youre up s***s creek w/o a paddle. Stop doing illegal stuff, and they wont be pissed.

EDIT: Excuse me...you can be pulled over anywhere, i guess. You can not be charged for your actions on said private property unless the owner of the property decides to take legal action against you (most likely for trespassing).
