My sprinting coach suggested I go out for cross country because when I sprint anything above 100 meters I get really, really tired and I about die at practice. The transition from 200m to long distance has been a ROUGH one. I've only been practicing for a week and I can go 42 minutes without stopping if I try hard, although I am still the slowest on the team now. Any tips on running Cross Country?

  1. Set a time that you want to achieve running one mile a day.  every 3 days just change your target time by 1-2 minutes.  also every 3 days you run rest for one. then after a couple weeks move up to two miles. and so on and so on.  All it takes is building up your endurance.  On your rest days try going swimming or do some other kind of cross training.

  2. cross country is really different then sprinting.. i dont know if you are doing it in order to train for sprinting.. but if so and you actually get into it, im going to warn you that once you go distance it's going to be difficult to go back.. you'll probably end up being a 400 or 800 m runnner, so yeah. basically run little by little at an even pace, with some 400 and800 repeat some days. and eventually you'll realize you can go longer for faster and yeah.. it takes time though

  3. Yes, run really fast.
