  1. yea im a soph and this is my first year running cross country and i would trade them in cuz spikes are only track use only to get better grip and the track!

flats are for cross country cuz your out on the dirt and you would mess up your spikes really bad if you used them for cross country!

i would have to say get pumas there great running shoes!

  2. I would talk to your coach and ask him about the courses, because some of them may go out on the road or cross parking lots.  If not, spikes are great!

  3. I would speak to your coach. However, I do know that in my school's jurisdiction, spikes are not allowed. It immediately disqualifies you. All the surrounding areas have the same rules.

Also, you will more than likely run across more than just dirt. You will probably run tracks, golf courses, trails, and roads. On many of those surfaces, the spikes would not only make it harder for you to run, it would ruin the shoes.

  4. depending on the courses, i say keep them. it gives you great traction and  they are super light, thus giving you more speed

  5. Make sure you know the difference between flats and spikes. If you bought spikes with a rubber bottom, thats fine, keep them. You can use them on all courses, just take out the pins. If you bought spikes with a plastic plate, keep those too. They're lighter and better designed that general XC flats, due to the fact that spikes are designed for an actual distance; not just all around running. But keep in mind you will not be able to use them on all courses. This is why it's generally to have two pairs of spikes. The plastic plated spikes should be for higher quality XC courses, while the rubber plated ones should be for courses with a lot of pavement.

Flats on the other hand and light weight trainings. They can weight anywhere from 3.9oz to 6.5oz generally. Flats are good cause they can be used on any terrain, like rubber plated XC spikes, but they have more cushioning. The downside is, that once you hit those nice XC courses, you wont have the ability to use pins.

Spikes don't make you tire faster; they keep you going longer.

  6. hey. I think that's great that you've decided to run cross country this year :D I decided to start cc my sophomore yr, tho I had been running a great deal before then my freshman yr, and now i am a  rising junior and am continuing to run...though I might not be ultra experience for it has only been about a few years now, I know a great deal because im totally getting serious about running now even more than I had before.

I think the flat bottoms are best for running, considering the terrains you will be faced with throughout the course.

I think spikes could ultimately cut of precious seconds of your time actually... just think about it unlike a track the spikes will tear down into the ground cause your feet to perhaps have a harder time coming back up, (maybe even causing you to tier faster as well as slow you down) this may seem like nothing without close examination but it could indeed hold you back in the long run...

this maybe not be as important to you but it just one thing I consider, (and one reason why I perferably wear flats)

I really hope this helps and good luck with your season
