Okay this is kind of embarrassing but whatever.

Anyawys, i am 14 and i didn't have to worry about my period until about a couple months ago. i was one of those people that didnt get my period till later so of course i didnt have to worry so much about swimming.

But now i do, and i have a question for all you girl swimmers...

Do you use a tampon when you go swimming or are you actually able to swim without anything at all?

i have friends who have their periods and they swim without a tampon, and i have friends who do have their periods that swim with a tampon. i have gotten pretty heavy periods for the time ive had it so far.

also, how the heck do you insert a tampon. i mean i know how to but i just get nervous and i freak out and i just stop and then i end up not swimming for a while cuz im nervous to swim during my period. and i want to swim badly...so any advice?

thank you so much in advance!

  1. Some girls who have there period react differently in water. The best thing to do is wear a tampon because you don't want to have an "accident" in the pool.  I suggest OB Tampons because they're smaller than normal tampons and you don't feel them at all. Also, they're easier to insert. These are very good for beginners.

  2. Don't swim without a tampon. it's unsanitary and you have to worry about gushing everywhere. Get something like Playtex sport so you don't have think about it. Inserting it is the hard part. If you aren't used to your period yet or you don't bleed enough it typically hurts. I suggest using a lubricant the first few times you put them in. Oh and make sure you use a plastic applicator it makes a big difference.

  3. ok I'm not a swimmer but I have used tampons & sweetie theres nothing really to it... it shouldn't make u nervous to wear 1 because they will stay in .. ( won't fall out if they r n rite) & there pretty comfortable! ok so if u buy a box of tampons they will come with an instruction guide that shows u how to insert them, so u kno how to.  but wut u basically do is take the rapper off of course lol $ slowly insert the wider end of the tampon inside u ... when u feel its in far enough .. u release it! & to do that is also very simple just push the end of the tampon shell in so that the actual tampon is released & a little string is hanging frm ur v****a!

    Now to release the tampon, u jus dont tense up ... relax ... & gently pull the string so that the tampon is released! & there u go .. all done!

    don't freak out & good luck :}

  4. First of all no, do not go swimming without a tampon that is just unsanitary. And I was the same way when I first got my period. The key is not to freak out. Yea I know easier said than done, but you absolutely have to relax. Once you relax it should just slide right in, and go all the way until your fingers touch the skin, then it shouldn't be uncomfortable. You can even try it a few times when you don't have your period just to get used to it. And if you want my honest opinion, I think they are more comfortable than pads anyway! You forget its there its so comfortable!! GOOD LUCK!
