things we can do like making fewer copies, but in the big picture is that enough? What are more things we can do in the classroom to help the environment?

  1. Consider giving saplings to the children and having them plant a tree.  Use recycled material for compost to help it grow while educating the kids about the science of it all.  This is especially cool to do around Arbor Day but will be neat any time of year.  Study the growth of your tree(s) over the years and the kids will remember that they made an impact in their local community and it will be something that they can tell their children about someday.  Maybe even carrying on the tradition.  After a few years you can even have the kids decorate trees planted in earlier years with strings of popcorn around Christmas time.  You can usually find free saplings of varieties of trees.  Incorporate the experience into what you're teaching if possible especially science or environmental classes. Math classes can help track growth etc...Hope this helps.

  2. www.climatecrisis.org chk out this site, download the video and show to ur students.they'll have sudden impact..m sure....

n hey i was just wonderin can u suggest me as in how can a software come to environment rescue?...m a compu sci major and want to work on this as my final year project...

    c ya

  3. I'm from Philippines, a tropical country...and I am a student of LRMS school and were preserving our mother earth...we dont have aircons, but we have some plants in each room .... plants were very helpful to our enviroment.. It can help to clean the air...

preserve our land the future is in our hand....

  4. Recycling of paper is a big deal in class room environments as a lot os paper is used.

Also try recycling projects and activities. Extra credit for helping with Household hazardous waste pickups in the community or Chrismas tree recycling events. Also stream and park clean-up events are applicable. Education at a young age is VERY important to establishing life long habits.

Also recycling contests, such as having classrooms compete at recycling phonebooks when the new ones come out (We asked our phone company to give money to support phone book collection in this way and we have a raffle where each class gets a ticket for each set quantity they collect.  Each winner get $100-$200 for a clas party or project) or aluminum can collection where cans are sold for a class activity.

  5. The most important thing is to teach how science works.

We're pretty smart, and we can figure out how to protect the environment.  The problem is the anti-scientific people who oppose efforts to do so.

On a more local level, proper covering/uncovering of windows to use or block solar heat can make a huge difference in energy bills in a building like a school, with a great many windows.

  6. We have two bins in our classroom, one for all waste paper and card and another for the rest of the rubbish so that all the paper and card can be recycled. Any paper that has a blank side gets put in the scrap paper tray so it can be used for drawing during wet play or for notemaking, sometimes a sheet of paper can be used 3 or 4 times before being put in the recycling bin.

We also have two 'green monitors' who are in charge of making sure the lights get switched off when we are leaving the classroom and I make sure not to leave the IWB projector on.

(I work with 8 and 9 year olds)

In the wider school environment, we have compost bins outside for children to put the peel from their fruit in at breaktime and we have the same in the staffroom along with an extra recycling bin for plastic bottles.

  7. Introduce the concept of free (for concessioners)/ lowcost SCHOOL DINNERS like they have in UK? Get rid of any "tuck shop" which produce waste paper etc. It would also take the burden off parents for the kids to have a substantial meal each day, even if they dont cook.

Rule out HOMEWORK for good (its pointless)....and supply kids with laptops to do their daily activities, to send to their teachers.
