i'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian, takes a 1-a-day vitamin, flaxseed oil, and tries to eat as much as i can. i run about 3-4 miles, 5x a week. Could it be iron/protein deficiency? if so, what can i eat within the guidelines of my lifestyle to help with my fatigue? Thanks!

  1. Many people need 10 hours of sleep a night to be fully rested even they are active or not.

Do you wake up to an alarm? Even on a free day(if you have such a thing)?

  2. I would say you aren't getting enough sleep. You need atleast 8 hours.

    Peanutbutter, very energy boosting.

  3. hey do you do enough carbs b4 your athletic endevers.  my boys (grow now & still veggies) who played football, baseball, basketball, surfed - well you get the idea - oh and i had a duaghter who was in Track - lettered 3 yrs in hischool - they all would choose their fav carb meal i would make it for them b4 and after sports events - of course Mom always threw in extra tofu too.  do some extra carbs the night b4 & it is always a good idea to re-do the carbs after.  and what another answerer said about your bed is important too.  you could try to incorporate a protien shake in there some place & fresh veggies juices are good source of live energy food.  do not eat after dark either - it can disturb your sleep - if you must eat an evening snack - oatmeal - loaded with calcium & can help induce sleep.  iron-have explored sea veggies?  Dulse has more usable iron than calves liver - yes sea weeds have tons of vits. & minerals.  and do not over eat - that will slow you down as well.  hope this helps some  :)

  4. You might have a vitamin deffeciency. If you are low on iron or vitamin b-12 that will make you tired. A lot of the 1 a day vitamins dotn do there job. If you take a 1- a day the vitamins can counter act with the other vitamins that are in the pill. could also be are you getting addiquit amounts of sleep. are you always dreaming? is you r pillow the wrong type for you? is your room above 70 degrees F? best sleeping conditons are 70 degress F no more than 72 . ask your doc to run a blood work up as well just to be safe. BUt try to take more iron and b-12. B12 is the vita min that gives you a majority of your energy.

  5. 6 to 7 hours of sleep is good and average if people did there research.

I would say, add more RAW foods in your diet.  Fruits give me lots of energy!  The best raw fruit you can ever get your hands on is:  Young Thai Coconut.  Mostly found in asian stores.  It's all white on the outside and shaped like a with a point on top.  Drink the juice inside and you'll be running 8 miles a day, 7 days a week!

I would try GREEN smoothies in the morning (if you have a blender)  Add any fruit and anything green veggie.  Blend and drink.  This is a great way to start in the morning!!!!!!!

I would also cut down on the milk and eggs!  If you research about it, you will see that it can damage your body as you get older!

  6. It sounds like an iron deficiency to me. Because you run 15-20 miles a week, you may be seeing signs of runner's anemia. Have you noticed a drop off in your running performance? This would be indicative of low iron levels. Your doctor should be able to check your levels at your next physical (or now). Try increasing your iron rich foods (e.g. raisins)  or take a vitamin pill with extra iron.

  7. maybe your not getting GOOD sleep, check your mattress and pillows, maybe you need to get new ones.

  8. Just off the top of my head, I'd blame lack of sleep first and foremost.  Eight hours is usually considered optimum.  Plenty of people can get by on less, but 6 hours is not sufficient for most people.  "Average" is not the same as sufficient.  If women in their late 20s are averaging 6-7 hours of sleep, that doesn't mean that's what they *need,* it means that's what they're getting, whether it's enough or not.

If you're a lacto-ovo-vegetarian the chances that you're protein deficient are almost nil.  Iron deficiency is possible it you're not taking care to eat iron-rich foods.  But only a doctor can tell you what your iron levels are.

  9. Wow! You are not getting enough sleep. The average person should get 8-10 hours of sleep every night and the average person does not run 3-4 miles a week.  There is plenty of iron in your vitamin and if you are worried about protein you should eat a protein bar before or after your run. 6-7 hours of sleep is not good for anyone, especially someone as active as you.  You eat eggs and dairy, and there is plenty of protein in that, so it must be your sleep patterns.  Just make sure you are getting your B vitamins especially vitamin B12. If you have a balanced diet you should be fine, just try to sleep more. If the problem persists, go get checked by your physician, something else may be amiss.

  10. I think i got a good answer..

    My teacher is a vegatarian.

She was always tired and cranky. So I kept asking her whats wrong. She got acheck up.
