  1. Why? Dark purple would make you think you're living inside an egg plant. If you're going to color it why not a pale lavender? As the sunlight changes it fades to ivory. If you do insist on dark purple, nothing will bleed through. Just remember the next time you redecorate you, will need 2 coats of primer to mask the purple.

  2. Absolutely!

Get a good primer/sealer and apply per directions.  Failure to do this will result in you having to give each wall 3 coats of color.

  3. You have to prime, or you will need to use several coats of the dark purple.

To achieve dark purple they will have to put at least 12 ounces of tint in your paint, which makes the paint a bit thinner.

When you prime, have it tinted to a light purple, like a lavender.  You do not want to make your primer as dark as your paint or it will effect the way the primes adheres to the wall.

So prime in lavender, one coat.

    Paint 2 coats in purple.

Make sure that the paint, and primers are completely dry before you add another coat, or you will get more paint on your roller, than on your wall.

(and primers is always cheaper than paint...  much more economical to purchase a gallon of primer for $14.00 and a gallon of paint for $24.00... rather than two gallons of paint.)

Also dark colors look best in a matte finish.  If you need a scrubbable flat, matte finish, try Behrs flat enamel.  It is a water based acrylic latex,  and it is fabulous....  even with my 3 teen-agess it cleans up well.
