I smoke weed, but I obviously wouldn't do it before work! I just wish I could still smoke after work, but still get to volunteer. What do i do?

  1. I don't know that volunteers get drug tested, but maybe it depends on what you would be doing.  As far as I know, even if you did get drug tested, it would just be when you were first brought in.  They generally only test afterwards if your behavior becomes an issue and they suspect it might be drug related, but that's for employees.  I imagine that for a volunteer, they would just ask you not to come back if your behavior raised concern.  Drug tests are so expensive, I don't see anyone paying for a volunteer to get one.

  2. Absolutely they will drug test you.  I worked in a hospital and because of liability with patient care you will be tested.  Also if there is an accident at work ... you get injured or injure a patient or break something expensive you will get tested.  My best advise to you is to stop smoking pot.  It is great that you want to help and I applaud that.  Most teenagers say s***w working for free. Honestly I am not here to frown upon weed.  It is just going to bite you in the butt and you can get screwed for future jobs if you are caught.

(p.s. I have volunteered in schools served in the US Army and am currently in my county CERT program)
