  1. I saw a travel channel show about cruises.  they gave lots of the pointers & information you could need.  One suggestion for motion sickness, was to book as low & to the middle of the ship as you could.  Based on new technology, there are stabilizers on ships to help ease the motion.

From one friend's experience, this wasn;t much help, and neither were the dramamine.  Let us know how it is, take lots of pictures & enjoy!!!

  2. When i was on a south pacific cruise, there was noticeably less movement in the middle of the ship than at the bow or stern, however i didnt notice a difference between the upper and lower decks and there is no difference between the middle and outside.

  3. Lower levels toward the center of the ship have less movement. Inside or outside cabins are not much of a difference. Center of the ship also keeps you away from the sound of the engines and of the anchor being put down. If the water is calm you should feel very little if any movement any where on the ship.

  4. The least movement is in the middle of the ship.  I prefer a higher deck.

  5. There is a point on the ship called the "center of gravity". That point will have the least displacement (it will move the shortest distance). On most ships, that point will be toward the middle of the ship, both stem to stern and port to starboard (front to back and left to right). However, the entire ship will move due to external forces, primarily wind and waves.

Stabilizers will help minimize the rolling motion around the center of gravity. So will booking a cabin near the center of gravity. That usually means an interior cabin on a deck just above the waterline.

You'll notice that many of the passageways will have handrails. If the ship is moving and you feel unsteady on your feet, don't be embarrassed about using them. You won't be alone.

  6. Amidship is the best place to feel the least ship movement. You WILL feel movement no matter where you are, but in my experience, forward or aft sway more and the rougher the seas the worse it gets. The ship choice is also a consideration, some of the newer ships have devices they extend to counter rough seas. I try to choose amidship on a middle deck.
