I'm about to buy a new digital camera; which brand/model is best?

The primary use for the camera is simply vacation pictures and stuff like that. I would like something that has a black and white as well as the standard full color mode. I also want something that is going to last more than just a year. Any suggestions?

  1. i have a sony, best camera ive ever bought. the companies that are really just reliable in my opinion are sony and canon. my cousins, aunts and uncles all have canon camera's. if your into something fancy try out sonys touch screen camera's.

  2. I recommend a sony cybershot with 3x opitical zoom and 7.2 megapixals.

  3. if you like to look good in taking pictures get a SONY "T" series but if you like to get good pictures try CANON... just my suggestion. But it would be better if you can visit your nearest store so that you can play around with the camera, which camera has a good optical zoom, good flash, nice LCD screen etc, after all it would still be you who will decide in the end... : ) happy hunting

  4. Everyone and anyone who tells you that more megapixels equals a better camera has NO IDEA what they're talking about. Megapixels have nothing to do with the quality of pictures you take. http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.h... explains.

As for the camera itself, it really depends on your camera needs (size, features, etc) and how you like using the camera more than the brand/model. Personally, I'm a Nikon fan, but that's because I like the dSLR user interface more than other brands. However, I know that there are many out there who like their Canons (or Olympus, or Pentax, or whatever else) more than whatever other brand.

In the end, like the answer above me says, go to the store (Best Buy, Circuit City, whatever) and mess around with the cameras and see what you like. It's much better to have a camera that you know how to use and like to use than to have "the 'best' camera" that you have no clue how to use.

As for the camera to last more than a year, that's more of the way you take care of it instead of it's construction quality.

  5. nikon and canon.. i have a pentax s6? which isn't bad and it's small. fuji kinda sucks cuz they along with olympus use xd cards for saving which are a little more expensive and are rarely used.

  6. A main feature to check at the camera is megapixel.

10 megapixels would be a very good camera with reasonable price.

As for the brand Sony, Canon or Nikon.

  7. okay, well this is more like an opinion question... but here's some advice:

the brand is not as important as how many megapixels it has. get the camera with the most. the picture qualtity is GREAT on my 8 mp camera. but there's even 8.5 and 9+ mp. so yeah..

    -Sydney :]

  8. I would have to say most Nikons or Canons are really good!
