  1. stay hydrated, stretch properly, and watch your form so that you can tell when its wrong:

    leaning front or back,

over-striding --> you can tell if you are stepping directly on your heel; land near the middle,

hand cross over --> keep your shoulders and arms relaxed, and

    wrists should be loose

if you are doing a long run of about 5-7 miles, then for about 5 days a week do  4-mile runs, take a day off or do an easy run if you feel good

oh yeah another thing, if you want to step up your workouts, do about 4-6 strides on a not-so-hard surface and take one day of the week to do a run through hills

  2. I recommend that you run every other day. My friend ran long distance every day and now she has chronic shin splints and can barely run at all. This problem has afflicted her for two years. Never do the same work out each day!

  3. Take a look at some of the training programs available at the CoolRunnings website. Couch Potato to 5k is a great program but you may want to look at the 10k Intermediate.

  4. 5-7 miles, thats a lot. all i can say is take plenty of water
