I'm 45, in 1962 she chose my wonderful parents to adopt me. I have brother about 4 yrs older. her parents found out about that pregnany and made her keep him, they did not find out about me. any sugesstions? Don't tell me to be happy with what I have...I am. you will never know the void in your life unless you have lived it. I have a wonderful family, very supportive...but the void is still there.

  1. find your original birth cerificate then go to white pages.com and search her

  2. seek info from the brother and I "get" it, and you are very blessed to have had a family that loves you.

Just think, in 1962, she was ostricized, not like the "love" children of today. Today the media makes it okay and people accept all sorts of stuff, back then it was sooo different. Thank God she didn't kill you, literally.

  3. Well have you tried asking your parents who she was? You said that she CHOSE your wonderful parents to adopt you, I'm pretty sure they would know obviously. If not you should check the hospital you were born at to find your mothers name. Hope that helps.

  4. I would go to some DNA testing.  I heard that a black kid who was a trouble maker had some DNA testing done, where he found out exactly what tribe he came from, I believe for pride.  So I can imagine if they can find someones tribe from several generations ago, I think that they can find your birth mother.  It will probably take long.  You can also check out the original birth certificate.

  5. To to go through the adoption agency that your parents adopted you from. They would have the most information.

  6. Here's the link to the ISRR registry mentioned above -

    http://www.isrr.net/registration.shtml

    (best place to start)

Also put your details here -

    http://registry.adoption.com/

Click on the state you were born in to check if records are open etc -

I know that void - you are certainly not alone.

Here are links to many many adoptee blogs - many are in various stages of search and reunion -

I wish you all the very best with your search.

  7. Hi Redhawgs,

I am a reunited adopted citizen, 43 years old.  There are different routes to take depending on what information you already have.  Firstly, in which state did your adoption finalize?  There are states that give adopted citizens their original birth certificates upon request.  That would give you a name and make things easier.

If you don't have anything at all, the first thing you will want to do is write to the agency that handled your adoption, or to the state department that handles adoptions in your state and request your "non-identifying information."  It's a good place to start if you've got nothing at all.

Meanwhile, sign up with the International Soundex Reunion Registry (isrr.org)  It is the largest reunion registry in the U.S. for natural family members separated by adoption.

There are plenty of other ideas that people will have, too.  From having no name to being in the arms of my natural father took 6 months.  Now, there is a great amount of variance on how these things go, but it's more than just a little possible.  Reunions happen every day.
