My aunt and uncle just adopted a baby from Africa (not all babies from there have aids!!!!) And I know that it took them a very long time to go through the process. Only they live there...so you might have to go to Africa for a while...or you travel back and forth. I know there is a good website, I just can't find it..sorry.

It sounds like you aren't adopting a baby from Africa at the moment, but rather have the desire to and don't know how.

Firstly, explore what your motivation is.     Did you want a child in the first place period, and then Africa is a detail you arrived at later or are you considering it because its trendy to adopt an international child and it was your first thought of bringing a child in your life.

There are many, many children waiting for adoption in the US.  A large number of African-American children who have been waiting so long.  I know many wish to adopt from Africa because of the conditions, but if the motivation is helping out a child of a particular ethnic background versus taking a child out of a particular nation, I urge everyone to look into the children already here if you are living in the USA

Adopting a child from a foreign country is a costly venture.  Expect to put tens or tens of thousands of dollars into the venture.   This would cover all fees and your trip to meet the child once or twice perhaps.  And expect that if you don't end up with a child in the end, you may not recoup the money.

Fortunately, in some countries, there are reputable adoption agencies who have the best interest of the child at heart.  And then there are countries or regions that you basically are "buying" a child.  The child is legtimately parentless or available for adoption, but the process is so vague, convoluted, confusing, or shady.

Also be prepared that some countries and agencies can set their own standards for foreign adopters.  China has stopped or curtailed adopting to single parents, or people who are on antidepressent/have a long history of being treated with medications for depression or bipolar disorders, just for an example.    In Russia, there are many boys needing adopting because culturally, Russian families adopt girls readily but do not adopt boys as much as there is a cultural view about not raising another man's son.    Girls are more difficult to adopt.

I am not trying to scare anyone, but that is just the reality of things.

If you are serious and you are fortunate yo be approved, it could be many months (rare) or a few years (common)  from application to meeting a child.   So just be prepared for that.

well, just would like to say......good luck getting one without aids.   why not adopt from america...much safer and after all....we should fix our child homelessness problems first, before we help other countries with their children. We have adorable babies here waiting for a home.....

you can check out the serivce for the children adoption in south africa by talkin to some real people whom works with government company go there ask them that you want to adopt a baby or young child in asia . then you can get a work papers sign up at the government office in youre own state then they can able have you go visit in africa for a vacation to see what child you would like to adopt a boy or girl , what age , what part of family you will to choose from . my uncle and aunt adopted two children one girl from irish,scotland , a boy from philippiness. theyre alll grown up teenages . but you must have least alot of money to adopt a child out country first .
