Question:

I'm afraid of birds?

I want to by one so I can conquer my fear. I've had chickens and geese before but nothing else. What kind of bird should I buy that doesn't make to much noise or one that's at least graceful and doesn't make fast sudden movements. I know that sounds ridicoulous but there has to be some type out there right?

  1. get a small bird

    maybe a finch

  2. How about a couple love birds. What better way to conquer a fear then with love.

  3. Finches are nice.  You don't take them out of the cage and they have a really cute, soft sound.

  4. watch a movie called "the birds"

its an alfred hitchcock film, it will calm your fears

  5. I don't think you should buy a pet bird to conquer your fear.

This would not be fair to the bird since they will pick up on your fear and become frightened of you.

The only quiet bird that I can think of would be the Dove; which is very timid and 'coos'. They are lovely docile birds that is why they are depicted this way.  If you do decide to get a bird I would suggest this one; knowing that they are so shy and timid that they will not attack you. They may try to fly to get away from you. They back away with a gentle cooing sound.

  6. Don't get a bird.  They are a huge commitment; they are expensive to care for and can live a long time, and if you use chemical cleaning products, air fresheners, or anything scented, you can't use them anywhere near the bird, and anything with Teflon (like nonstick cookware or even a self-cleaning oven), it's best to not use at all because that stuff is deadly to birds.  You also need a good avian vet, which may take some work to find and can be expensive, but they are necessary if you care about your bird.

Also, what happens if you get a bird and it doesn't calm your fear right away?  This is very likely because as someone said, they sense your fear and it makes them uncomfortable, and then you'll be even more scared.  How do you expect to take care of the bird like that?  It's extremely irresponsible to get a pet you don't even know if you can take care of, and they get very scared and stressed being moved to different homes.  You have to think about the bird's feelings.

What I suggest is, if you have any friends who have tame birds (preferably small ones), visit them and let them show you how nice their birds are.  If not, I'm sure you could find a bird club and find a friend there.  I took my budgie Bullet to my bird club on Sunday, and my friend who was his previous owner had brought her friend who was afraid of birds, and she warmed up to Bullet.

  7. I would get a parakeet or budgerigar.  They are small and have really cute chirping sounds.  They don't bite too hard, too.

  8. Try a parakeet. They're small, friendly, and can be taught to talk.

  9. dont be afraid...birds can be friendly and cute. i'd suggest buying one parakeet, a couple, or a group of males or females. i've had about 9 years of experience with them 'cause i used to have some (they died though T.T).

but anyways, get a parakeet. theyre good.
