I'm almost 16 and I need a job, how should I go about looking for one?

I'm going to be 16 in about a month, and I'm planning on applying at the mall and a few of the stores that are by my house.

How do I ask if a store is hiring?

How can I be formal?

What should I wear?

How can I get the manager to remember me?

How soon should I turn in the application?

My friend said I should start applying at places a few weeks before I'm 16. Should I?

I heard that if you take a parent with you to look for jobs, they take you more seriously because your parents are in on it. Is this true?

Thanks for all the help :)
