  1. Not many people can.

The best way is practice practice practice.

    Thanks for loving our game!!!!

  2. I'm an Aussie who has played the game a bit.  I know Forky above has too.  I think I had the same problem as you when I was younger.  I was a reasonable kick from a standing start put if I ran I had problems.

I use to 'throw the ball up' to kick it or at least I dropped it from a height.  You can get away with this from a walk but no way can you do it on the run.

I started by holding the ball down the 'seam' and pointing it almost inwards towards my foot.  Then I got in the habit of 'pushing it' onto my foot.  At first I was kicking the point and the ball would spin backwards and occasionally go miles off target.  But with practice I made the hold not so severe and the push not so hard.

I also focused on leaning forward into the kick rather than falling away from the kick (which makes you both lose momentum AND throw the ball in the air).  This is sort of running through the ball.

Hint number 3 - worry first about accuracy and technique.  The distance will come with just a bit extra drive into the same technique.  I'm quite slightly built so I have difficulty kicking more than 50 metres or so (you will have a natural limit) but I'm fairly accurate and have a very predictable 'hook' with my kick.

Practice first with 20 metre kicks and get 9 out of 10 right before you try for 25 metre/yard kicks, and so on.

  3. Look at the newest aussie punter now playing the padded game,

Rocca, he can kick like there is no tomorrow, follow his lead & you cannot go wrong

  4. do leg exercises to strengthen your kick and make sure you drop the ball straight on your foot and just practice, you know what they say: practise makes perfect

  5. I have got your very same problem with my kicking. I have practiced so hard, for so long, I have wore myself down to the bone!

  6. Make sure you are keeping your head over the ball and that you are guiding the ball to your foot for as long as possible, this will help with timing and with practise you will get more distance, also your size and weight will play a role in the distance you can kick, when your on the run the same principles apply but its also an idea to slow down just as you are going to kick, some people make the mistake of just running flat out and in the end their feet are going to fast for their body and for them to be properly balanced, also you want to strike the ball fairly low to the ground for nice low passes and strike it mid way for a long kick-good luck

  7. Most of the art is to do with timing....a bit like hitting a golf ball.....the harder you try to hit it, the least distance you achieve.

Just like a cricket bat hitting a ball...there is a sweet spot. So just try learning the art of kicking first....it doesn't matter how far, just learn to do it right. Then the art, & distance, will improve with practice.

Kicking while running? Practice doing it off a walk, then build up as you become confident. Don't try to kick while running flat out.....only the top professionals can do that! Some people never master this part of the game but plenty of practice is the way to go.

That's how I coach juniors anyway!
