  2. Switzerland is the best place for international boarding schools in the world. In the major European capitals (i.e. Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Milan etc), international boarding schools are rare. While most of the cities will have an "American" or "international" school, the vast majority of them are day-school only. I know of a few boarding schools in France and Italy, but none of them are international. If you have ruled out the U.K., which are obviously all very British institutions, then Switzerland would be the place to search. Here is a list of the Swiss boarding schools: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_boa...

Rosey is the more serious (academically) of the others and is an established school, but it still can't compare to the American boarding schools in terms of academics. For info about Rosey: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institut_Le...

Swiss boarding schools are the most expensive in the world though, Rosey will cost you around $100,000/year in total, the others $70,000-$90,000. However, these schools are not recommended if you want to academically succeed and get into a top university. Don't get me wrong, they are very good schools, but not exactly the Harvards and Yales of boarding schools. For that you have to go to New England. If you are looking for more experiences over academics, then Switzerland is the place for you. But, for most, this is not a good idea. Also, admittance into these boarding schools have recently become highly competitive.

Since you're a fellow American, and have probably been going through the American curriculum for most of your life, I have to warn you that very few can cope with the change in academic style. I certainly had trouble with this. It's true that some students can succeed even in very un-academic environments, but these cases are rare. International boarding schools in Europe, especially those in Switzerland, cannot be considered "academic", yet. And this will almost certainly hurt you when it comes to getting into good universities. Most are currently changing towards a more academic environment, but their reputations as centers of elitism and constant partying still sticks to this day, true or not. It's a very big choice to make, but for an American, It's almost always better at a New England boarding school. Best of luck.
