convention. How do republicans feel about our commander in chief and his second not attending?

Gustav and Georgia were not exactly emergencies that needed the attention of both of our executives. I would really like to hear some honest thoughts instead of automatically defending their actions, which I think were really lame. I find it inexcusable that neither could find the time to attend. Gustav was such a dire emergency, oil fell four dollars a barrel before damage from the storm could be assessed. If Georgia was such an emergency, why didn't the vice president go sooner?

Personally, I think neither executive attended because they're toxic to their own party, out of sight, out of mind. Thinking back to what I saw of the convention, I don't recall either being mentioned very often.

Thoughts?

  1. McCain praised bush for 911, in his opening speech last night. I really think the party is trying to distance themselves from them. However, I would have been more impressed if McCain did not make mention of him.

  2. They probably sensed that their own party are a bit ashamed of them and would like to keep them locked in a closet so as not to affect McCain/Palin's election especially so soon after the botched up Georgian bid not to mention Pakistan. N. Korea, Iran or the Polish Missile deal which eventually the US will have to back off.

  3. McCain didn't want Bush at the convention, especially if he was planning on giving his "Our party went to Washington, but we didn't change Washington, Washington changed us" speech.

The hurricane turned out to be a useful excuse to keep Bush away from the convention.

  4. you've got to be kidding... right? you know as well as I what would have happened if they had been there...

    always nosnod

  5. If you paid attention you would have heard on the news that they were making themselves available to help if necessary when the hurricane hit the coast.  This is also why the RNC was scaled back.

  6. I guess they were able to figure out that attendance of  their current terrible Pres, would have negative impact on their current horrible candidate ?

    Regards.

  7. the hurricane was a good cover for a polite 'thanks, but not thanks"

bush cheney co not being in attendance just made it easier for mccain to divorce himself from their administration... because 4 more yrs of bush is obamas argument against mccain.  it won't fly tho...   regardless of his 26 yrs of 'maverick' his support of bush policies over the last 4 yrs is especially damaging.

  8. Not even sure why they called it a GOP convention if the leader of the party, Bush and his second in command, Cheney, didn't bother to attend.

If McCain is ashamed to be a Republican, he should leave the party, give up the money, and join another.  Otherwise, he needs to deal with the fact that he represents a continuation of the current administration and deal with it the best he can.

I'm not sure whether I should laugh or cry everytime I hear McCain utter the word "change."  At least with Obama change means not Bush.  With McCain it is an empty slogan.

  9. Independent, lol@that. If you didn't think the hurricanes were important, than why did so many people blame Bush for Katrina, and not doing enough to help the victims of it? Now that he did it, expediently, and was there in a "flash'! You complain again! You're Liberal to your bare dirty toes, and you know it. So do I.

Country First, Man. Always Country First!

You Libs need to learn that.

John McCain said: "I would rather lose an election, than a war".

Country First, and Bush just stuck it up the noses of the Libs, by being there for his Country, instead of at the Convention.

    Thanks Mr. Bush

  10. Bingo and its a sad none patriotic fact that should enrage all America after all Bush/cheney has done to America over the last 8 years..regards f.p

  11. After the Katrina fiasco, and everyone blaming Bush, I believe they did the right thing not coming to the convention.  President Bush did speak at the convention by satellite.

I have heard President Bush mentioned many times, but the convention is to introduce the new guy not the old one.
