Question:

I'm an Obama supporter, but let's be honest...?

The experience of Obama has never been a strong suit for the guy. We are supporting him based on what he says he's going to do... Which is what most everyone who vote is doing. Most of the things McCain has said or done doesn't favor the "middle class" which is another reason I am not supporting him.

My question is this, as an Obama supporter, do you REALLY care what level of experience Sarah Palin has? There are plenty of core things that she believes in that we can go after. So, why try to diminish her experience when Obama "experience" is clearly not his strong suit?

  1. Obama actually going to help the people. I'm from Hawaii, republicans know how to mess up things and we need to fix the economy. Elect a Dem.  McCain/Palin doesn't really think  for the people of all race and culture. Another thing is high cost of food in this island.  Obama 2k8

  2. We are not denigrating Palin's experience, only pointing out the irony, since they used that argument against Obama.

Ultimately, a vote should be cast on the platform and the plan of a candidate.  Obama will surround himself with numerous experts, so I wouldn't worry.

Both Clinton and Bush Jr. were also called out on their lack of experience when they ran.

  3. We are angry becuase for the past 2 years they have been using the experience card against Senator Obama, now why can't we use it against someone who clearly does not match Obama at all? Why the double standards.

  4. I am older than the vast majority of posters to this site, and I will share an insight from life expereince: It all boils down to who takes the right side. Experience is fine; eloquence is fine; charisma is fine. None of those things would make me vote for or against Obama. What gets my vote is that he is posited, in the context of this election, as the antiBush. He promises a break with one of the most wicked and stupid regimes in most people's lifetime.

THAT is "change I can believe in". All the rest is icing on the cake. He will return the White House to the good guys, the right side, the light side. No one could ask for more this election. McCain/Palin promise a steadfast attachment to all that's wrong with politics and society right now.

  5. i could not care less what her experience is, when i heard she was against ALL forms of birth control, i made up my mind. Sarah thinks if a woman is raped, or is a victim of incest and gets pregnant, too bad--the baby must be carried to term. If the mother's life is threatened, tough, have the baby anyway. And she cannot even take care of her own family, much less a country.

  6. I think a US senator and State Senator trumps a governor in experience.  Most governors have little power and states are completely run by the state legislatures.  Governors are mainly figure heads for their party's agenda, so I disagree with you.

Also mayor of a town of 9000? My freshman class in college was 15000, so technically my freshman class president has more experience to be VP.

  7. You can beat on her all you want.  We just going to ignore you.  You're not voting republican and every single word of criticism is coming from others who are not voting republican.  You're not going to change a single persons mind.  The bottom line is this.  We like her.  We like him.  We're going to vote for them.  End of story, so wail away or save your breath.  Up to you.

  8. The problem is obama has been in the public eye for 3 years and got the nomination of his party with 18 million votes. This is much different than mccain choosing her after a 15 minute meeting and only to help win the base and the election.

I agree though we need to take her down based on her missteps.  Being that she is a religious extremist we will have a serious problem with her second in line.  At least with mccain you know hes just putting on this im far right act to win the election and will go back to normal once hes in office.

  9. If people actually understood the issues, the Democrats would harp on the war.  But since the entire anti-war movement could hold it's meeting in a Denny's that isn't a lot of votes.  If people had an education in economics the Republicans could beat up Obama over that.  As it is nobody cares about the war and nobody understands economics, so we vote on emotions and demographics.  Since we're being honest, I honestly believe that Obama will cause a recession.

  10. You are absolutely right.

And let's keep in mind that, so far, it is "politics as usual."

These comments about her lack of experience are just media BS.

They all keep saying they are going to be non-partisan, and all that rot, but really they just keep jabbing at each other with words.

It's enough to make us not want to vote for any of them.

But they have their delegates, so... do they really care if we vote?

  11. Although I agree that Obama's experience is not his "strong suit," I find his experience pretty impressive, and certainly adequate for someone aspiring to be president.

Sarah Palin's lack of experience genuinely makes me nervous.  It wouldn't bother me if she were appointed to any other governmental position, because yes, it does appear that she's a quick learner.  And she might be fine as a vice president too.  But I worry that, as VP, she could ascend to the presidency long before she is ready.  She has had no experience in national or international issues.  None at all.  She hasn't even given speeches or issued policy statements.  And thus far, she's demonstrated no knowledge about the major issues facing our country.

I admit that, as an Obama supporter, I'm necessarily biased.  But I would have the same doubts if Obama had chosen a VP with so little experience.

For example, Al Franken, Democrat.  He's a comedian/talk show host running for the US Senate seat in Minnesota.  I like Franken, I agree with him on the issues, and I'll probably vote for him.  But if Obama had chosen Franken as his VP choice, I'd be as worried as I am about Palin. So it's not entirely left-wing bias on my part.

  12. I am an Obama supporter too. I agree with you 100%. Personally, I am against Sarah Palin because I don't like her politics. I don't see how Obama supporters attack her on her experience. It's a double standard.

  13. Obama wants to main the status quo.  He won't have my vote.

  14. Well, I have to say yes I do care about Palins experience. In any other election it wouldnt matter at all, but this time around there is a real chance that McCain will not live another 4 years and a real chance that she will end up the president of the USA.

For this reason a lot of people are taking a hard look at her and thinking, what if.

  15. i think that even without that much experiance, a person can still be amazing. I think Obama will do great in office, and that is why i support him. I do not like Palin becaouse i think her point of view on many things are completely wrong.

But i dont not look away from Palin becaouse she doesnt have much experiance, but how i feel that her views are wrong. Also, becaouse of her inexperiance, i think the Republicans should stop being so mean to Obama about his lack of experiance. I dont think it matters as much.

  16. No, lol, I don't care about Sarah Palin's expierence... And I completly agree with you about Barack.

    -OBAMA/BIDEN 2008-

  17. Kennedy had little experience. Reagan had none.

Obama has served Americans his whole life. He came from NOTHING to the top of Harvard law school.

He couldve worked in big business or any law firm for big $$$ but he decided to serve americans and help out his fellow chicagoans.

His whole life he has served Americans and tried to improve life for everyone. Mcain has been in washington 20 years and what has he done? voted with bush on 90% of policy for years.

Obama is a fresh breeze which the country needs. Mcain wouldnt be a terrible president- no one can be that bad after Bush.

But the country needs a democratic government for at least 4 years, 12 years with the same ruling party is too long.

I dont think the experience attacks are justifable. The Palin hype will die down soon when the real issues come up. What is Palin going to do when she has to debate with Biden? He is going to carve her up in all likelyhood. Let the policy and debate do the talking. leave the lady and her family out of it, i think the palin choice has created a buzz, but the can will fizz out soon.

  18. None of these candidates have the experience to be president.  And that's the facts.  If they were doctors they would still be in college according to experience.  Except McCain, he would be the doctor with malpractice lawsuits up the yang.  Would you let them perform your triple bypass?  The last time we voted for the lesser of two evils we got Bush and we all know what happened.

I wont make that mistake twice.  It's RON PAUL or NONEOFTHE ABOVE for me.  I refuse to vote for issues I either don't believe in or don't believe are possible. Collectively we're behaving like overweight children fighting over the last cookie rather than sharing it.  That's what makes this country great, bipartisanship... not keeping all the pie to oneself.  This is exactly why we are 50 trillion dollars in debt.  Congress argues all day everyday over politricks and never gets anything done.

"This is America.  We don't do anything until something reaches a crisis."

  19. Because they did it to us. now we should beat on her until she cries her eyes out. serves them right for starting the mud slinging buisness.

  20. Being rational will get you nowhere on this forum.

  21. Agreeable I don't care of her experience Frankly as you see 8 years of experience got America no where. I di not like her policies or the fact that when Hillary gets attacked she calls her a whiner but it isn't ok for her to be in the public spotlight. I also don't like that fact That Mccain said he was going to put Country First, but doesn't adhere to it.

  22. I agree with what you are saying to a point. Her stances are anathema to my basic beliefs regarding separation of church and state, not to mention allowing others the freedom for diversity in lifestyle.

At the same time, she is very inexperienced. Barack has proven himself via working in both the Illinois and US Senate, as well as the remarkable campaign he has led. Bet ya Richard Lugar (R-Indiana) votes for him.

  23. Thank you for being a mature and logical voter.  If we had more voters like you, this race would be more interesting.  Instead, it is giving me headaches since people on both sides want to dig up dirt and do things to ruin each campaign's credibility.  It's ridiculous.

  24. I am an Obama supporter, and I agree with you also. I support Obama, more or less, because he knows the country isn't headed in the right direction, at the moment, which the Repubs fail to grasp, it seems.

Amy S, the reason Palin is being attacked for her lack of experience is because the GOP has been attacking Obama over that issue for about 6 months, and then they went and picked someone who has about as much, or less than Obama does.

Before anyone goes attacking anyone over experience, we should remember that Teddy Roosevelt spent 2 years as a governor before becoming one of the greatest presidents in American history.

  25. Well, I agree to an extent.  But, the thing I was hoping for was something to hope for in spite of McCain's record.  I thought that maybe if he had nominated a proven manager or if he had nominated someone who had championed a little guy cause that I might be swayed.  some of what I hear out of McCain's mouth I like.  But war and more war is what I hear out of the republicans.  We can't stand that kind of lost life and lost resources.  Iraq is not our problem to solve, it never was.

  26. Im for Obama 2, but the reason that ppl are saying things about Palin is b/c McCain vp's choice was very important. If something happened to him could Sarah Palin be president of the United States? Prob Not, so thats what democrats are trying to get across.

  27.   Its scary to think someone like Palin is one notch below Mccain.  She belives in censorship of books.  She believes God told the US to go to Iraq.  She Lied to all of America last night in her speech.  She is scary.

  28. There is no comparison when you look at John McCain's criteria for the most important part of the job.  Obama has shown an interest and understanding of US foreign policy, going back at least to his time in the Illinois Senate, when he wrote the prophetic op-ed about the risks of an invasion and occupation of Iraq.  During the campaign, he has been in communication with a group of 60 retired generals and admirals in order to increase his understanding, and ready himself for the job.  Palin has stated she hasn't thought much about the Iraq war.  On another occasion, she stated the war was God's plan.  We know nothing, at this point, that would lead us to the conclusion that Palin has any serious interest in US foreign policy.  Obama is a serious-minded person who has formed and expressed a coherent view of US foreign policy.  Palin is ???
