i'm 32 weeks pregnant (complicated pregnancy at that). i have a 4 yr old son, 35 yr old husband (who sometimes might as well be the 4 yr old).

my husband and i are in the middle of moving from an apartment to a house-- while he's at work i've been painting, pulling up carpet, and trying not to lose my sanity taking care of my 4 yr old in the meantime! my husband gets home from work and comes right over to help me. we are both suffering from lack of sleep, but trying to get things done before the new baby comes.

my brother and his pregnant girlfriend have been kicked out of several homes, been evicted, had a car repoed, etc. they called and were on their way to a homeless shelter, so i talked to my husband and we decided to let them stay with us TEMPORARILY only. i've done all the calling to find them help to find a place to stay, and any type of help.

they have helped out some watching my son while i get the other house ready, but its still another family to take care of.

more..

  1. I think you have pretty much answered your own question.  It is not wrong to be kind-hearted and help out, BUT you must make your health a priority.  Do not hesitate to put them to work.  Why don't you watch your child while your brother helps with the heavy stuff?   Have them help cook and clean and generally pull their weight.  Make a schedule of all the chores and work that you want them to do and then stick to it no matter how much they might protest.  It will be good for them to realize they have to grow up and be responsible.  Also, let them look for their own place.  They were adults enough to get pregnant. If you do everything for them, trust me, they will be back knocking at your door before you know it!

Then when it's time to move, be firm about asking them to leave.  It's a fine line between helping and enabling.

Good luck to you.  Hope it works out!
