Question:

I'm an atheist but I don't want to be.?

I don't like the fact that after 70 years or so, that is it. We are dead, worm food. I want there to be an afterlife. I really want to believe in something more, but can't.

There is no logic to God. And morally if there was such God, at least how (he) is portrayed by all major religions (he) is a bast@rd. But then again so is nature.

Is it possible to create some kind of religion that solves all problems or just to except the fact that life sucks... and that is it?

  1. Athiest or Agnostic?

  2. you should use your realisation of the lack of an afterlife to make the most of the one life you do have

and then feel sorry for the people who are in for one h**l of an anticlimax

fortunately theyll be too dead to notice lol

  3. You already know you are destined to be worm food, so what could your new religion do to change that?

  4. It's extremely comforting to believe in a god, but like you said, it's just not possible when you know the truth.  You just gotta make the best of it(or find a way to stay high on some drug 24/7).

  5. I don't think you need to ACCEPT anything.  For all I know, when we die our conscious mind is whisked away by a super alien computer station on Glargon 8 where we can take the form of naked robotic penguins and jump around and eat cake.

The point is, I am 100% sure that I don't know, you don't know, and they don't know exactly what (if anything) happens when we die.

I don't like the fact that we die either, by the way...but that's hardly the point.  Creating a fantasy afterworld so that you can feel better about dying is understandable.  Creating a fantasy "overseer" who watches your every move is just wierd, yet unimagineably widely accepted.

    Oh well.

  6. Believing in something that isn't true, won't change the truth. It's not worth wasting your time being pessimistic and thinking life sucks just because it doesn't last forever, we are lucky to have what we do, enjoy it for how ever long it lasts, even if there were an afterlife of some sort, we could have no idea what it might be like, so it would still be best to make the most of this one:)

  7. May God (YHWH) help you, because it appears to me that no one else can.

  8. Read the books The Case for Faith and The Case for Christ...Both written by Lee Strobel former atheist. He is a journalist who set out to prove that God does not exist.

  9. Life sucks, that's it.

    Get used to it.

There are lots of reasons that religion was created in the first place.

    This being one of them.

Being frightened of the inevitable is no reason to add on to something that has caused much death and suffering.

  10. I started off like you.  I didn't want to be an atheist, and I did think life sucked.

But, it changed. Slowly but surely, it changed.

The more problems I faced as an atheist, the more I realized I didn't need religion.  I realized I had an inner strength I had not seen before.

Death is scary, but once I got used to the idea, the fear went away.

  11. Why not make up your own one,I mean just cos its 2000 years old and has good PR doesnt make it true, makin one up is as likely to be true as any other.

It's not a religion you need just something to believe,I know how you feel though, the whole bible one just doesnt work for me and i hope to h**l there is no truth in it but would kinda like there to be something out there.

  12. You can't force yourself to believe in something.  I have to take the agnostic position because I find so many confusing messages out there.  There is so much in the world that is spiritual but none of the major religions add up to a complete package.  There are always conflicts of ideas, things that don't fit and incompatibilities that make my head spin.  In the end I am happy to think of this life as a mystery and leave it at that.  I don't think that I am meant to understand it all.

  13. Be a Buddhist the only respectable religion that exists.

They don't believe in a god but they believe in the unity of all things.

  14. THERE IS ALWAYS A LOGIC TO GOD AND IT CAN BE PROVED FROM  ANY LIVING OR NON-LIVING THING IN THIS LIFE.

IF YOU LIKE TO READ AND DISCOVER THE ANSWERS READ " THE ISLAMIC BOOKS ABOUT " LOGIC TO GOD"

IF YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW IF ITS GONA CHANGE YOU MUST TRY.

LOOK FOR  " THE REAL ISLAM". NOT WHAT YOU SEE AND HEAR.

ITS A RELIGION OF PEACE .ITS THE LAST OF THE RELIGION SAID TO BE SEND FROM GOD ( ALLAH) TO HELP PEOPLE LIVE CONFORTABLE AND HAPPY NOW AND AFTER DEATH.

YOU CAN'T KNOW IT'S TRUE UNTIL YOU TRY IT , GET INTO IT AND YOU WILL SEE THAT I AM SAYING THE TRUTH.

THERE IS ALWAYS A LOGIC TO GOD AND IT CAN BE PROVED EVEN ANY LIVING OR NON-LIVING THING IN THIS LIFE.

AND BYTHEWAY/ RELIGIONS ARE NOT EASIER THAN ATHIEST AND BEYOND,,,,,, BECAUSE IN RELIGIONS THERE IS HAVEN AND h**l IN ADDITION OF WORM'S FOOD.

ISLAM GIVE YOU WAYS TO AVOID BEING EATEN BY WORMS. I HAVE SEEN MIRACLES OF THAT.

  15. hiya - life doesn't suck just because it ends it is beautiful precisely because its in demand and short supply cherish every moment- learn to like the idea of making the ground more fertile - worm food is very very useful - they are such amazing creatures working hard for evolution and the soil without which we wouldnt eat -

I'm going for a woodland burial so i am most productive - (really i'd like juts to be in the communal compost heap like the dead flowers)

Take some comfort in the fact that you wont know your'e dead. One minute is consciousness the next not.

Death isn't the big story life is - there is enough time for you to do everything you want to do as long as you stop fretting and torturing yourself about 'what ifs'. Let the future look after itself stay in the moments and savour them.

be easy; be happy; its all pretty glorious if you just look around .

  16. As I say there is no black and white in life it is all gray - so you do not know what is true what is not until you have seen it - I was an atheist - God freaked me out - now I know He is. I started from reading Carlos Castaneda books, and was in search of the same thing you do. Here I am now seen things and know that this world is not two dimension as we see it. There are things besides that.

  17. Whatever you believe won't change the truth, so forget about death and enjoy life.

  18. I am a Christian, but this isn't the right forum for me to go in detail.  Email me if you wish to hear more.  I will explain why I am a Christian, and my experience as one.

  20. Religion is for the weak minded. Just because you WANT an afterlife to be there doesn't mean it is.

  21. just remember that you will never cease to exist as long as you have someone who remembers you after you die. leaving your mark on this world, being it by accomplishing a great achievement, or just influencing those close to you to be better people,  will prevent your death from being the end of you.

  22. Being an Atheist doesn't mean you can't believe in an afterlife of sorts, just not the traditional heaven and h**l as advertised by God.

I personally believe that there is an afterlife and that our spirits continue to live, i just don't believe it has anything to do with God - our bodies are amazing machines created by nature and who knows what our minds are capable of achieving.

You're still allowed to be spiritual, the meaning of Atheist is lack of belief in God, not all things spiritual.

  23. Dear, the only thing "atheist" means is someone who does not believe is a god.

An "afterlife" of some kind or another does NOT have to be attached at the hip with religion or a deity. The concept can exist just fine on it's own. If you think you believe in some form of it, then that is up to you. While it might not be the most common among atheists, I'm sure you are far from alone. IMO if such a thing existed then I feel that it would just be something still connected to this planet, not some far off fairy kingdom, not ruled by anything, and not have exclusive entry...just some kind of continuation here and that's it.

You don't need to join or create a religion, your individual views of what is and is not are entirely up to you.

  24. You could believe in any of the thousands of gods created since human existence, if you can actually force yourself to believe something you know is false.

  25. Religion is for the weak that can't handle the facts of death.

  26. If your life sucks, then change it.  Quit being a victim.

  27. You have to realize this... although you'll be nothing when you die, you always have to make an effort to live life, not just to the fullest, but as well as you can. You may want to be conscious after you die, but realize this: there are many people who die everyday, that's just how it goes.

You're going on the right path, not believing in a 'god', but making a religion won't solve anything. Life may suck cuz there won't be anything afterwords, but even I have grown to accept that. So you have that opportunity.

The best thing to do in your case is to not fall into that false sense of security, and denounce this needless fear religion that evokes this almighty, loving, 'god'.

I know that there will be some kooks preaching to you that you'll be 'at peace in your life' if you accept 'Jesus', but as far as you're concerned, you should follow your mind, in which christians assume as 'naturally sinful.'

  28. Try Buddhism.

  29. Just have s*x.  Life is all about the experience.  Might as well f*ck before you die.

  30. Hi,

I'm a christian...and i can understand your point of view as half my family are atheists.

God isn't a God of logic but of faith, that is why alot of his actions we cant fathom.

He is "Portrayed" as bad...but if you look at portrayal of people by man kind, we can often see that we lack judgement because of a lack of knowledge..

Don't give up wanting to find faith, you will find God

    =)

  31. Welcome to the existential crisis that I'm sure every atheist has faced.

You really have two options: 1.) Accept the fact that this is your life, and some day it will end, or 2.) Delude yourself into joining a religion that will not fulfill you so you can shoot for that golden afterlife.
